Great idea for a thread. Let's see some odd / quirky features on BBX's. For instance, I have a GE BBX that has two slide out drawers on the back for cassette storage. Not the best example but you get the idea. Triple cassette decks, odd shapes, strange features, etc.
Let's see 'em.
about the wierdest thing on any of my boxes is my jvc dc 7 turntable boombox ,the battery compartment is on the back of the speakers, and it has no function switch all you have to do is press a button on any function and it switches it electronically.
On a similar track, my Denon H-55 only works on batteries when the tape/tuner section is separated from the speakers and amp component.
So essentially the only portable part of it is an XXXL sized walkman.
That's damn quirky.
Rock On.
this Marantz model i got from Skippy yesterday has a rotary midrange control
Wohooo, the recordplayer is great!
Today seen at the flea.
This SHARP is a Doubledecker!!!
2 tapes in one deck!
Interesting construction:
The door comes horizontal out and flips down.
Never seen before

I have one of them sharp back-to-back decks.
Different model.
Probably has one of the coolest ejects of any deck or boombox.
Im in the middle of restoring it.
Just need to get it back together.
.
.
.
This SHARP was avaiable for 20euros.
If anybody interested, let me know.
I was near to take it, before i found a nice JVC...
My Sanyo M9500K "one on the left" really isn't quirky in function, just it's looks. I love the weird speaker grills.
MORE PLEASE! This is great!!
I have a boombox that has a power save button made in Germany courtesy of HiFi Tom
.
Does this count?
Sharp went and put a 7 inch TV screen right smack dab in the middle of my boombox?!
Now THATS quirky!
PS: I thought about finding another one and replace the screen with a woofer, but decided Id rather spend my money somewhere else.
Its MINTY as the day I got it on my 12th birthday! I had it gone through for a freshen up in 2005.
What a great idea for a thread! I love it! That Sharp doubledecker is great! Any idea on shipping to the U.S. Viennasound? Or those speakers! Skippy, where did you find that?!
Did I see a real bona fide mid range control?! I knew I dug Marantz!

Do you mean the Marantz or the Sanyo?
The Marantz that Ira has now ,I got last ago on Ebay.
The Sanyo came from member "Jovie". I was looking for one for years and he found one for me. I used to have one just like it when I was in high school. I've only seen two like it and I owned both of them.
LOVE the Sharp "big screen" BBX! Biggest tube I've ever seen on a boombox! Cool!
MORE! MORE!

Can you tell me how heavy it is?
I will ask for the shipping costs.
The optical condition of it is ok.
The technical i can check there, because this flea owns a power supply!
The TV-Sharp is great!
What do you think about this stange PHILIPS i´ve seen today.
This "Moving Sound" owns a woofer (?) fix mounted on the right side...

What?! Ive never seen anything like that 'Moving Sound' added on woofer?!
Does anyone know anything about that oddity?!
Im not sure what the double cassette unit would weigh?
Triple cassettes have got to be the freaks of the boombox world! I love them! Rare as hens teeth too....

moving sound units came out in nearly all colours.
NEVERTHELESS:we are spoiling this thread.
The only one of those series i own is this nice Roller2.
I love the crazy design:
I think the K-Flamenco with clock is something special too...?
Or this threedecker (2 tape, 1 CD):
Thank you for the info on 'moving sound'.
What about that strange additional speaker off of the side like in the photo?
I like that triple deck!

No. Only one cassette deck can be heard at a time, and priority is in numerical order. When deck #1 is playing, it blocks out #2 & #3. When deck #2 is playing, it blocks out #3, and #3 can be heard only when neither of the other two decks is playing.

Quirky features is probably why I got this and or the cheap price.
Swival speakers and control console ledge.
Reminds me of the 60's Jetsons.
(still in the mail)
Good topic. I would say the vertical tuner scroll on my Sencor is one. Too bad it isn't lighted.
Or how about the animated LED tape directional indicator on my Toshiba RT200S
Or how about a volume knob that's as big as the typical tuning knob? This is on my Crown 850.
I'm also a big fan of cool-looking tweeter protectors, and the one on my JVC 838 is one of the best.
Splitted equalizer for left and right (each 5band)!
But combinated volume slider.
2 microphone-jacks
At my PHILIPS in the büro:
Those are excellent, Reli!
Rock On

Can't really show it, but the Hitachi 3d7 I have, you need to have the cassette recording for Line-in to work?

Straight from the Death Star center for design!
