HUGE disappointment. The radio arrived with a hole punched in the right side. I can almost fit my hand in the hole. Radio tuner pot smashed down inside the unit. Right speaker grill twisted up...and that's just a quick visual inspection. Contacted ebay seller just now - waiting for reply. It's a bad day in boombox land.
masterblaster84 - 2008-12-19 09:58
Sad indeed, another cool box lost to the shipping gorillas.
Was it packed well?
Man that sucks.... I have seen your other posts you made in anticipation of the 777 arriving so I know how much you were looking forward to it. That hurts even more.
Sounds like a fork lift accident....
panasonic.fan - 2008-12-19 10:06
Auction link?
Sorry to hear about your disappointment
December is the worst time to get boomboxes shipped in the US. Volume is waaaay up, workers stressed, so it's far more likely that packages will get mishandled/abused.
Auction link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageNam...IT&item=260328920467Packing was marginal.
Tried to power it up...completely dead.
Anybody willing to part with one of their spare 777's? I am hopefully going to be able to get my money back on this one.
themightyrepairer - 2008-12-19 10:28
man that sucks.. nothings worse than having a sweet box destroyed.. but at least it's Redding who sold it.. he has been around for a while.. i'm sure he will take care of you R.I.P. 777
panasonic.fan - 2008-12-19 10:30
Sounds entirely like shipping damage. The pics in the auction clearly show none of this damage. Seller is reputable, get in touch with him and remain positive with him. It goes a long way to getting his help with the claim, which you need.
Im sorry to hear this!
I hope the seller works with you!
damn that sucks ,and i sent you a tuning knob for it too ,wtf.
Man that really sucks
.

Floyd,
Thanks for takin' care of me brother...looks like I'll be sending the tuning knob back
i've learned from experience the gf777 is about the hardest radio to ship without it getting busted up .
It brings bad memories for me seeing this thread title as i've been in the same situation before
...On a positive note these models aren't that hard to come by on e-Bay and i'm sure you will find another one soon
Like others have said, i'm sure the seller will cooperate and work with you which will make matters easier
.

i have a spare tuner board if it will help.

I am glad I picked mine up in person... although I am sure that they had it shipped to them, but at least I was able to avoid that myself. It wasn't close to where I live... a LONG days drive round trip... but I picked up alot of other boxes at the same time to make it worth it..

hey man if you can't get a full refund i will help you re build it in any way i can i'm pretty handy with glue.lol it would have to be turned into dust before i give up on it .if you could only see the one i got off ebay i mean the titanic looks like a ferrari compared to my gf777 when i opened the box.
Man that really sucks.........
RIP GF777.
I'm so sorry to hear about that.
I know the feeling when you heart sinks to your toes.
I'm sorry.
Another irreplaceable vintage piece lost.
On the slightly plus side, maybe it's good for parts for another one??
Oh yeah, I've been there too! Probably will again... you almost wanna throw up, you feel like you've spent all this money and you have nothing to show for it..except a busted box!
I have one waiting to be picked up by UPS! Matter of fact.
Sorry to hear about it, hope all works out for you (normally does 99% of time).
Johnny
Poor 777, hope you can repair it...
Yeah i feel for you never got a box damaged but was worried when I got one from germany and it came by boat,
took over 3 weeks but showed up in awsome shape. It took almost an hour to unwrap
You guys are great. Only we really understand what it's like to receive a much anticipated BBX - only to have it destroyed by some HAM-FISTED UPS MORON.
So close but yet so far
It's 6pm EST and haven't heard from the seller.
I GREATLY APPRECIATE THE KIND WORDS OF SUPPORT. DOES MAKE IT A LITTLE BETTER.
Thanks all!
Tom
too bad you don't have pics of the damage ,i think it can be fixed up as long as no un replaceable parts are busted ,i have fixed some pretty badly damaged boxes before it aint easy but if you are determined enough it goes along way.
panasonic.fan - 2008-12-19 16:17
Another possible upside is, you know have some fairly desirable parts to sell
Wow, I read your other thread first - sorry to hear about your 777!!
jaredscottfla - 2008-12-19 17:08
wow... Tom very sorry for you sucks big time.
I hope this all works out for you Tburick.. disapointments this time of year seem to be doubly harsh too.
Good luck getting her either fixed or getting a replacement.
Rock On.
im.out.of.hear - 2008-12-19 18:06
yep, same here,as i said in your other thread,i got mine shipped from hong kong, took 2 months to arrive, when i opened the packing, the box was smashed big time..i`d wanted a GF777 clone for years, waited months for it to get here, excitement turned to horror,i could`nt beleve it,you feel like "why me"
That was once in a lifetime,i knew i`de never get my hands on a jap 777 clone again, and i never did..GF999 is my fave clone..
Gettoman,
I feel your pain. I totally get the "excitement turned to horror" thing.
Seller contacted me and I think he's going to refund my money. I asked him if I could purchase it as a parts machine. Also, just bought another unit off of ebay this morning...a Chinese Gf-777. $400, but this unit looks pretty clean. A few small scrapes, but overall pretty nice. I am crossing my fingers.
Tom
Nice to know the seller's going to give you a refund. It's the least he can do if the packing was "marginal" as you mentioned.
Don't give up on repairing that poor 777, if all the bits are there I'm sure it can be fixed up good as JVC Floyd says. It's certainly something I'd have a go at!
In the 5 transactions that I have had this year where the boombox arrived busted due to shipping I have never ONCE gotten any money for it. The seller plays nice for awhile, but eventually stops returning emails. I get passed off to the delivery service who never pays off either due to poor packaging or who won't deal with me because I was not the shipper... and the shipper doesn't follow through on their end. So I end up with some very expensive parts boxes. To the tune of about $1000 so far this year.
What are you going to do about it? I don't know... I consider it a risk. I usually worry more about the condition of the boxes being mis-represented. In my experience that is a worse problem.... In the end the good deals balance out the bad...
Trying to see if I can post two pics of the deceased GF-777

just read spuds post -- about getting FIVE smashed up boxes in just ONE year
and my comment is -- that he is a good sport for having that 'take the good // with the bad' attitude--
but --when the bad is THAT bad !!
i think paypal is supposed to come thru ,
as soon as soon the seller fails to make a refund.
I never got any money from PayPal. Some were not guaranteed... some I made the mistake of not opening a dispute.... rather I tried to work with the seller and the insurance. And then the time limit expired before I got satisfaction from the seller. Knowing what I know now that will never happen again. Anytime something arrives damaged I will open a claim immediately. Then I can force the sellers hand and come up with some kind of compensation.
As a note most of my damage is related to speaker damage on 3 piece systems. Damage to the speakers... damage to the speaker mounts etc. 3 piece systems should be taken apart and wrapped individually. In some cases I have been able to replace that speaker... but that costs money too.
Tom, I'm so bummed to hear about your smashed up box man. If Floyd is offering to help fix it up, he'll do you a good job
We were rooting for you too. If you can contact that Chinese seller, ask him if you can request extra packing/bubblewrap,etc. (even if you have to pay a little bit more for the security). Best of luck on that one Tom.
Tom, "Weelanddeal" has a 767 for a great price in the for sale thead. Get it dude!

At first I thought something fishy was up, but then I noticed it was a different box. The seller of your smashed GF-777 has another one up for sale.... more dinged up...
another 777
I know that this seller has good feedback, but after receiving the 777 I felt that he did not accurately describe the condition of the radio. It was actually in pretty bad shape. The small marks he described in the speaker grills were more like ball-peen hammer strikes. Right cassette door did not open or close properly, cassette decks were very, very dirty inside...moderate layer of dirt/dust in both decks. A lot more marks and scratches than the pics showed. Radio was actually in poor condition. Would have been a lot of work to turn it around. Maybe it's a good thing that it showed up smashed.
THAFUZZ, As far as buying ANY other boomboxes - I am DONE for a while (so says the significant other) I had to do some REAL TALKING to get permission to order a second 777 when I did not have the money back for the first one. I talked my way into it by convincing the other half that the second 777 would be my "main" Christmas gift. So on Christmas morning, all I'll be opening is a few packs of underwear and socks
Man sorry Tburick about your ordeal!
OK, now I am getting nervous. I haven't heard from the seller of the 777 in 4 DAYS. I have sent 2 emails with no reply. Anyone know how long I have to file a dispute with ebay/paypal?
I think that's the best course of action at this point.
tburick...you can file a claim with Paypal, and if later things get settled between you and the seller you can close the claim, it's easy to to do and you have nothing to lose by doing it this way.
-gsbadbmr
So sorry to hear about this tburick
Was the outer package damaged when you received it?
If you do decide to part it out, may I politely enquire as to the condition of the back case?

Redding1 is a good seller but he is slow to respond to E Mail,I'm sure he will work with you.I've purchased at least 2 units from Him with no problems.Normally he packs well and double boxes his boomboxes.
