I wan´t to start with an apologize for my inactivity on this forum, I read every day, I´m just to lazy to write I guess.
Anyway, I had an advertisement in the local newspaper today, which resulted in kind of a jackpot. Today Ive picked up four nice boxes in an area of two kilometers from my home, and I have several others waiting for me when I get my car back. Anyway, one of them I just don´t recognize. Its a LUXOR and looks like this:
Big and great sound! What AKA:s are there for this box?? I thought I had every big/midsize in my boombox injured brain but I just can´t remember that I´ve seen this before.
The other boxes that I picked up are theese:
GF777 fully working, great condition
GF9292, great cosmetic condition, but the tapedeck doesn´t work.
TRK 9900 exelent condition, fully working HIGH QUALITY!

awesome pickups man!!
the luxor reminds me to the Goldstar TSR-800 on one side and to the tosh S-90 on the other side.
im still drooling about all them..awesome.
one ad at the newspaper and these amazing results!!
wish the area around here would be a goldmine too
Awesome pick up dude. I never see ads like this in my paper. About not posting much.....I read more than i post too
Nice, looks like a MaraIt is from Luxor Instrustri AB
older European Electronics manufacture joined with Nokia.
luxor home stereo
Thanks for the response, I´m also pretty suprised by the response from this advertisements. This is the 3rd time I try it and every time I´ve scored lots of nice boxes, this time the responce was so good that I had to say no to all semi intersting boxes since I don´t have unlimites space for boomboxes. I almost never find anything on the goodwill stores and flewmarkets around here, even thogh I´m a VERY devoted hunter.
Yep, Luxor is an old swedish brand, but there must be other AKA:s, i´ve never seen a luxor box that doesn+t have several AKA:s.
TPR!?!?

I should have such luck looking through newspaper want-ads!! All I ever see are free kittens and used leaf blowers.
Anyway, I can't tell you what the Luxor
really is in its heart-of-hearts (a Sanyo maybe) (but not a Goldstar, since it's made in Japan and not Korea), but it's the same box as the Sears SR-2199... one of my all-time favorites for looks and sound. When someone says, "So, you collect boomboxes. Can I see one?" the 2199 is what I bring out. It defines the term "classic"!
Congratulations on four spectacular finds... and more to come!!

Thanks alot baby-boomer! Yeah, I really like it! Reminds of the panasonic 5600 but to me the luxor/sears sounds better than the pana.

Wanna sell the 9292 by the way?
Wait a minute! I just re-read what you wrote. You didn't look at newspaper want-ads. You put in a want-ad and got these boxes as a result. Wow! Guess it never hurts to ask, huh? I've got to try that someday.

Was looking at one of those the other day. Read somewhere that the sound is the best hitachi-sound there is out there. Asked about it here in the forum but with no response.
Thumping bass?

I agree with bb.
Since sanyo boxes appeared often as asahi and sears.
Baby boomer: It´s definitely worth a try! I didn´t thaught this machines existed around here before I tryed it. BUT! You shuld ad a picture if possible, the forst time I tryed whithout a picture which resulted in a few crap boxes.
TPR: thanks for the information!

Way to go Gus! I really like that Hitachi. Been wanting one of those for a while.
I think I will give the want ads shot. It seems to work for a few members around the world so hopefully somhing good can happen in the Alabaama!
TPR: Nothing new...?
now
TPR: Thanks for the info. My german aint up to date, but i could understand some.
GuSG: Javisst.
(sorry for the swedish everyone)

i've seen boxes with that kind of marks even on the scale window. radio lovers, lol
metad: Yep, it´s a shame, isn´t it! I´m not sure that its possible to remove

Don't use thinner or something else to remove that. You'll mess the paint up
Its on the aluminium, so its no risk for the paint, but i think its hard to remove on that kind of surface

I can read about 70%
It is about a hitachi radio on tradera, and there is
somehting funny but I do not know what
Maybe how to get it cheap from the seller
Try it with a little ether on a cotton bud. I guess it will come off
Hoi Ed, alles prima?
great pics-- the sears 2199 i had a peek at one and found that it was manufactured by toshiba at least thats what i found as markings inside the case

Well you're well on your way of understanding the whole conversation there, Walkgirl!
When I read it out loud it does sound rather similar to
our dialect!
in fact, the dialect we speak here is about to understand
from Luxemburg to Norway

yes, very easy to damage the finish around the scale, it's not just a regular paint, it has "brushed alluminium" surface, dunno what to do... try to use wet tissue (alcohol free) for digital cameras and monitors, try with a great care

no no, it's not an alluminium, it's a paint! look a like alluminium

Great detective work! I would never have guessed. (Of course, when I did guess - Sanyo - I guessed wrong.) Mystery solved. Thanks!
you are right! I thoght it was brushed alluminium. Mabye the best thing i can do is to paint over it whith a silver marker
We have a product here in the States called Goo Gone. It works wonders on all things icky and sticky, along with removing permanent marker from some surfaces. If you can find anything like that in Sweden, I'd say give it a try - on an inconspicuous location first, of course.
Congrats on the new finds!!

Gusg, it's up to you, but i wouldn't do it, you can make it worse, so try to clean it gently with care first
write someting with a marker on a similar surface or a crappy radio, let it dry, than try to remove with a cleaning stuff (various).
Excellent finds GuSG, love the 777!
Dude, you scored -
BIGTIME!!! Congratulations!
Babyboomer... your love for the 2199 is making me want to get one!
It certainly is classicly styled isnt it?!

Definitely GET ONE, JLF. You won't be sorry!
Wow! I love the Black Hitachi! I have two of these, but the black is baddass!
