Well, if I plan on bringing anymore than I did this time I'll need the U-Haul to put Bobby in since my truck will be full!
freddie, if you do come back you can leave the C9 here with me, I don't want you to hurt your back loading and unloading that beast.
For those who want to know what this beast looks like here is one with the original speakers...
And after I gave it something to chew on!
Hey aHardbody...don't worry. I raided Fatdog's uncle and aunt's medicine cabinet and took all the Doan's pills!

Wow. Looks like a great event. I'm a bit jealous that there aren't more members close to where I live. So many boxes so little time. Whose 777 was that with the RUN DMC labels is that?? I like those...I also really like those 20/20s with the LED mods. Best in show???
weylandyutani - 2008-07-29 00:07
Wish we could get a NZ/AUSSIE meet goin on.
Great gosh a'mighty! That meet up looked like loads of fun. Well done guys, that's just phenomonal stuff. And certainly makes the physical distance between us all on here seem much, much less.

That would be Fatdog. And what you can't see in the pictures are the litle details like "King of Rock" embedded into the label!
Wonderful you guys, just wonderful.
I so wish I could've been there too (I kind of understand where rimmer is coming from there) if only to annoy you all with my British accent
You already had 3 of the b-boxes I would've bought (M90, Kaboom, & the baby Sansui - which is
such a good mini). Of course I would have to have represented the Hitachi 3Ds, of course & maybe the Sony ZX-7...
So many good pics & video too - thanks for doing that, to share it with the rest of us.
Did many of you have far to go?

Yup, I tend to forget what a big country we live in! And to think that Alabama and Florida actually border each other and you only came half way down the peninsula...! Thanks to both you and oldschool69 for making the trip!
Amazing thread.Boombexery indeed. Most of us will agree it is nice to put a face to the names we know.
I'm surprised Jared and PanFan weren't able to attend since they're both in Florida too. Both great S2Gers

He wasn't alone. And he only drove about 75 of them!
I would go anywhere on the road with Bobby! Anytime, and (almost
) anywhere! (I have to allow room to avoid those "shady" areas he may like to frequent.
) He really is a good guy to have on the road with you trust me.
ya know --
that incredible 1,300 mile effort you guys made --
might send a gentle signal to our california crowd . and all those midwest members --
----they are not too far from each other to have their own meets --
RIGHT ???
Off topic but...
5000 POSTS!!! (It's really because he's old and been around forever!)
Yeah guys! A West Coast Throwdown or Midwest Mayhem Tour! Get it together ya'll!
"Hardbody
ps: Is your online handle in reference to a minitruck you own ?"
off topic, My CB handle is "hardbody", from the 87 Nissan Hardbody 4x4 I used to own, when we got our first computer and aol, hardbody was not available, so I made it "ahardb0dy". that's the story.

Now, now. Let's not hate on the three piece box.
As a matter of fact the final battle was down to TWO three piece units. (WX-1 & Sanyo C9) The M90 had already been slayed and the Conion probably would not have fared much better.
With the exception of the WX-1, CC-9000, and PC-11, those three piece beasties were mine. And mighty they were!

Yes they do. That was my Realistic SCR-8. I also had it's twin, the G.E. 3-5259A "Blockbuster" there as well. I had one more one piece unit there also, the Philips D8634 MkII.
I also have quite a few other one piece units as well and traded my JVC PC-3 for a very nice Hitachi one piece while at the meet.
So let's not hate on the three piece. All there were snared by their elegance and raw power. Especially after the "Sansui & Sanyo Experience".
WOW total amazing dang wish I could of been therebut I'm very thankful for showing the pics I could everyone had a real family and friends get together fun. God Bless ya all.

Ahhhh...this old nugget about what is and what isn't.
It is no secret that even in the 50's where you would need a hefty (90 volts in some cases, and they actually attempted to sell these) battery to operate portable record players, they either had a built in mono speaker, or at least one additional
"detachable" speaker for stereo.
It's all a matter of design and taste. And don't hate the design, kick the engineers in the shin. The same engineers that bought us the wonderful RC-M90 were also designing, at the same time, the JVC PC-3 & 5. They knew what their marketing teams wanted to put out so they built them. And we bought them.
No matter how anyone chooses to slice it, if it has two speakers, runs on batteries, and has a way to play radio and recorded media, it's a boombox. Even a handle isn't always required. (See Sony ZX-7 mini.) Even the ghastly iPod dockboxes with tuners are boomboxes. Heck as sorry as they are the lowly Coby's and Durabrand's (Wal-Mart) are boomboxes.
The only real question is the level of boom they put out. The M90 is no weakling and neither is the Conion. There are plenty of powerful loud one piece boxes out there. And not every three piece unit can match them.
I would recommend to anyone, don't sleep on the three (or some cases four or five) piece box. You'll miss something special. That, my freinds is a fact.
Well said Oldskool! A great lttle sermon! I wish I did not live so far as that looks like a great time! Maybe there will be a Canadian meet sometime soon as well...Although I am a bit surprised, I have the Big Tosh, and I find it loses out to my Conion and my M90...

Hey James
I agree about the m90 and conion beating the the tosh for sure.
Fred just wanted his Sanyo to look like it was beating on a big boombox so he chose the quietest one to do battle with
