my perfect boombox would have the looks of my sk-95 and the sound of my sony fh215r
i have the sk-95 and the sk-31 and the sk-900 to me all are good sounding box
or ---how about one that looks like this -- but sounds a hair better
How do they sound? Is it fair to compare Sanyo 720 to JVC M70 sound wise? One of those just sold to our very own Mr. Fatdog for $130 (congrats once again!!!) - which is less than half of what M70s command. And I like the way it looks - A LOT
Oh, and my perfect boombox would look like National 4360, but sound like M90
yup -- your 4360/M90 would be a good one
that fatdog win seems like the 'too good to be true' price -- they are usually more than double $$ that-
the 720 sounds better than the m70 -- immho
my perfect boombox would have the looks of the RISING 20/20 and the sound of the RISING 20/20.
Rock On.
wowee glue --if only they ever made one of those combos---could have been just amazing !!!

Right on, brother!!
Thanks for the plug on the M-X720, guys. I can't wait to get it here! Of course, that means I'm gonna have to sell one.

Hmm, I'd say the looks of an RC-838JW, Crown 850, or RX-7700, with the sound of a Studio 1.
from the pocket calculator --
m90 with 10s
w/o the twin decks
My perfect boombox is that one with the look and sound of JVC RC 838 and the power of the JVC RC M 70 or even the JVC RC M90.

I agree about the looks of the 7700/sound of M90.....
1) RS-4300 design, quality, reliability and mid/highs performance.
2) M70 power (strong and always well controlled)
3) A JVC quality deck (mechanical), like the 838 or M70.
4) THe National RF-520 warm bass (love it).
5) Without CD !!!
My ideal box has the:
Looks of the Sharp GF-9696
(but the analog VU's from 9494)
Sound of the JVC M-90
And a Line-in
how bout this monster...the conion from the future
...courtesy works of our moderator.. Retro...
with blaster
If they build it they will come.
Got the colors of the LEDs mixed up, though. The green should be on the inside, with the red going out.
The looks of....a GF9696 on steroids (say 200% bigger) with Rising side handles, green backlit dial like an MX920, say 12" Cerwin Vega's (silver caps of course) in it, with appropriate bracing / titanium chassis.
The sound of....Rimmers mates stack system..
I spent a lot of time thinking about this.
My perfect box would incorporate many features and new tech also. Looks "garish", but is VERY functional... the full thread is here:
CX4
well - at least ONE perfect box (performance-wise)does exist right now in maryland, usa --
at the home of member jvc floyd --
it the DOOMER.
he designed and built it with all non-exotic components --and its sound like perfect !!
Looks of an M90, sound of a Kaboom.
...I'm a basshead

The looks of the Sharp GF9000, sound of (cross between an Aiwa CS880 and the Sony FH-7).
That would be one sweet boombox, if you ask me.
Looks of Aiwa M-1, sound of Carryin' Compo
AO -- thanks for the 'plug' re the carry compo
cant find anything on the aiwa M-1 -- do you have a picture ?
How about the looks of a Magnavox/Philips D8443 Power Player with the sound of hmmmm... Pretty much anything other than a Power player! but the sound of an Aiwa 880 would be Proper.
Peace
Paul Z.
Ira, I was going for the small box with a big box sound angle.
thanks AO --after a re-check --using the "CS" --our trusty bbdb came thru --
btw - this chick must be ENORMOUS !!
no box could be that small
