Alright y'all, over a year later and my project is finally complete. Thanks to those who helped out. Just to break it down: I made a concrete casting of an old Sharp 777. Inside this beast is a battery, mp3 player, speakers, solar panel, and a motion switch that triggers an audio piece, a short story about my grandfather (which I will have uploaded soon). I am making multiples of these and 'planting' them around the city. I promised some pics... I am going through them today and will update this thread as they get finished.
Piece!

Wow. This is pretty amazing!!
Matt, it looks like you did a fabulous job on the concrete GF-777.
I'm sure your grandfather would be proud of how it turned out. MacArthur Park?
Oh, did you ever find your Promax box?

im not sure if this is what you had in mind , and mean no offence by my suggestion, but this would look sooo cool with some good graffiti covering it.

i am willing to bet with or without the artists input that will be covered with graffiti if it is in public.
I'd rather have one of these outside my house instead of a goose or jocky!

Hey Fatdog! Thanks man. I will have the audio posted as soon as I can. And yeah, MacArthur Park. There will also be one in downtown, and other parks around LA. Also, for the OC heads, there is one in the Orange County Museum of Art.
I never did find the Promax. But I think I might be searching for another GF-777... I miss mine since destroying the hell out of it for the project!!
Piece.
That would be great to have some photos of some holy grails around this piece. Let me know if that ever happens, Id love some copies of the flics. And Blaster, it is sort of a memorial/monument of sorts to the holy grail box, as well as one to my grandfather. Let me know what you think if you make it down there to see it. The detail came out amazing, I will update the post soon.
That would look so cool on someone's front lawn such as mine!
Great work Dausone the details on it is awesome.
The world's first boombox kiosk!
What a cool landscaping idea. I want one in my backyard!
one of them would look cool in ny near the statue of liberty...

Hi-That's incredible!!
I want to bring a boombox and have a pinic around this.
I am going to L.A. in the spring-I just may do that with a 777.
Have a great one and thanks for such a cool monument for all of the ghettoboomers!-Ghettoboom777.
That's is awsome! Like ford93, I'd put it on my lawn instead of a bird bath.
but then the birds would graffiti it.
on a side not to you get the image i sent you.

This is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Congratulations on some really exceptional work Dausone. Your project makes me even more proud of my 777.
Please post more pictures of other locations when you can.
Rock On.

ghettoboom777 - 2008-11-17 20:00
Ira-When I think of Coby's-I think of "Cracked Eggs"!!
Fantastic monument though-I'm going to have to see one of these if not this one when I go this next spring or summer.
Have a great one-Ghettoboom777.

I wonder if Matt could make a concrete Hello Kitty boombox?
Hey Jens, the concrete GF-777 needs to be added to the BBDB.
"Brilliant" Blew my mind.
Please post me one ASP.
Would love to throw out the Grecian Urn in the front garden and put one of them on the pedestal.

The solar panel is there to trickle charge the battery. It really doesn't provide that much juice unfortunately.
I think it's great when people create things. We definitely need more people like you!

So, does the weight of the thing stop people pinching it?
I'd have great fun paining one of these up to be as close to a real GF777 as possible...
Hey Dausone, did you ever post the audio/story for this box? I'm interested in hearing it.
Peace,
Paul Z.
Fantastic project - looks amazing! Did you have to get permission to place it in the park?

I was wondering this also, - perhaps this is to be a piece of Guerilla art! And I was also wondering is it heavy enough to stop anyone casually uplifting it
That is sick, nice Job!
hey ret, welcome back...
An absolut original masterpiece,i can see all the time and effort put into it.looks wicked!.
