I have the 6400 too mine is a little Different it ends in W 6400-W,The tape is Dead on That Box,Damn,Hitachi's! I think Their tapes die as often as Toshiba.

I just bought a 9900 - a real nice looking and very heavy bbox with a lot of goodies - because I thought it would be something for my Hifi-Ghettoblaster-collection ... but ... this thing looks way better than it sounds!

Did Hitachi ever produce a high quality bbox with hifi-sound? Which is the best sounding of the Hitachis? Any ideas?

The trk-8800, sounds pretty impressive, but, i can believe you on the 9900.

the TRK-7700 is missing from the list, i've got one but can't find any info on it at all.

I never owned a 8800, just got a 9150 (digital). Sound is exactly the same! That's the reason why I asked for a "good" sounding Hitachi-bbox. The 9900 looks so cool, mybe just the speaker system is a minus. I realy don't know ... but if you are after sound (like me) this bbox isn't interesting. To flat - no real high's, no deep black bass. And that's the units I'm looking for ...

Still never seen a 3D6. The BBDB has one but it looks identical to a 3D8. Maybe it was an earlier version?

many of the 3Ds that ended in "5" were versions of another model but with a digital tuner added (ie 3D45 = 3D40 with a digital tuner)...
