know everything ??

redbenjoe - 2008-11-08 22:27

in case some do --thats cool -- then you dont need to read this Big Grin
but for the few that dont ::

notice that recently -- tons of 'ordinary' priced boxes along with the grails seems to suddenly have extraodinary high $$ BINs or starting bids ?

well --imho -- its not 'new greed' --in fact -- its been NORMAL forever - in the thousands of years of commerce for sellers to want a 'pretty penny' and buyers want a 'deal' --
so -- its NOT greed - its just the same old regular business tradition.

if eve knew how to 'price it'
she would have got more --and adam less Smile
----------------------

anyway --there is something NEW --which i think is the real cause of these super high new prices --

ebay --has their final value fees based on the selling price --so , of course, they want to help sellers be $$successful --

SO --they have changed some of their arrangements -- and the results have encouraged sellers to 'go for it' on the FIRST round --

if a box doesnt sell during the first week --
the give a FREE listing for the next week--

therefor --the way it is right now --is that a seller has little to lose by putting up a ridiculous $$ high first time price -
-----------

just mentioning all this --to suggest that us bidders be more patient about some of these BIN offers --
and wait for the second round Smile
amen

Ira, but hasn't it always been the case - if something didn't sell the thirst time - you get to relist it for free?

redbenjoe - 2008-11-08 22:47

sort of -- but very lately --ebay has been much more aggressive/helpful Smile to sellers --

with all kinds of listing deals , package deals etc--
------------

whats weird -- to quote you : "bad economy"
the BINS and starting bids are going WAY UP !!

vladi123456 - 2008-11-08 23:10

I don't think the prices are going up. There are a couple of people who are trying to ask 3 times the normal price, but overall - the prices have come way down - compared with last year. At least, from what I can see Smile

redbenjoe - 2008-11-08 23:14

actually --you're are 1/2 right -- the final SELLING prices are down --
but the initial BINS and Starting bids are now 'reaching for the moon'

i think the bin prices are wishful thinking in many cases. overall i think that prices are on the decline. i mean for sure there is still people collecting boomboxes.
i do think tho there was a pocket of time there were there was tons of people who were motivated by the eighties revival in music who were snagging them for the hipster appeal.
i mean so many fashionistas had to have a boombox for their hipster night out.
i do think tho prices have gone down a little on some of the undergrail stuff.
the lasonic reissue i also think did this as well.
the hi end grails will most likely tho go up even more than before now.
i dont really know tho anything could happen.
