Does anyone know how the sound from this model compares to a Sharp GF-9090? I've just bought an RC-656 and wondered how it sounds before it arrives. Thanks.

i love the rc 656 it is a good sounding box ,not a bass monster but it will grow on you it has very decent sound.

i got mine from the thrift store for $25. alot for a thrift store box,at least i thought so at the time but once i cleaned it up and did a contact cleaning job,the perf from the 656 was quite good!

It has a nice balanced sound and is fairly loud.The 656 is a favorite JVC of mine because it's nice and compact for it's output.Don't expect to impress people outdoors with it though.

hell i would play mine in the front yard and cars would slow down and look at it , i love the rc 656 it's a sweet box .not a ghetto blaster just a nice decent sized good sounding radio.

I agree J Floyd, Jovie, really nice midsize sound, mine goes very loud.

I think it looks as good as it sounds! Got mine from Ernie J. for a song...

Having heard both (albiet a long time ago), The 656 is a better sounding box.

Thanks for your replies, everyone. Daiwa, yours looks mint! And nikamichi, you told me just what I wanted to hear. I have a GF-9090, it's a decent sounding box, but I wish it had more bass. If the RC-656 sounds better than the GF-9090, I'll be happy! Cheers!

I've wanted one of these boxes for a while and finally found one. The looks aren't really my thing to be honest (I prefer round woofer grilles with chrome trims round them), but I particularly like the tuner section of this box. It looks very professional, especially when the red LEDs are on. And the tuning knob looks fantastic. Just thought I'd add that.

I'll post a full review of the JVC RC-656 when it arrives, for whoever wants to know...

Got mine from Chicago, and the ErnieJ stable of boxes... the tuner is stuck on one station and won't tune, but I like jamming cassettes, the sound is superior to other, larger boxes, and it's a great carry box!

You will note in the pic, there is black tape above the tuner window where there should be chrome... Other than that, pretty darn clean.

there are two versions of the rc 656 the other one has round grilles like the m50 its called the rc 656-c2 version.
