I was out looking at yard sales and goodwill/st.vinnies today and I found this Technics SA-C07 portable stereo system. It's not a boombox because it does not take batteries. I can see why too,it consumes 215watts!!!!! and holy crap is this thing loud. The radio display does not light up and the cassette works ,but sometimes it will eat a tape while your back is turned. Man you would not want to carry it far as it must weigh at least 45 lbs !!!!
I've always wanted one of those.
Wow! Hard to believe it includes a handle!
Well done scott i bet this one blows away the 880 shame about the no batt thing though, we want a video now
Booooooo! I can't loaf around at thrift stores during the week!
Seriously though, nice catch Skip!
Thanks guys. It actually does not have a lot a bass(IMHO) But is is sooooo loud it makes your ears hurt and its crystal clear at high volumes too. The handle is built it ,NoSync.
damn thats pretty bad ass ,i would love to mod that bad boy.i wonder if theres room for a car battery in it lol.

very cool, congrats skip,it's impressive looking! I had a couple nice scores thrifting today too,no boomboxes, and nothing as good as your score but still cool,a mint in the orig box panny walkman, and a personal grail portable LARGE Dx radio a Sony MR-9700W. Super Long Distance Radio,Rivals The Ge Super Radios!
3 bucks for the panny walkman,$12 for the sony.
I've always wanted one of those also.I'm not big on bass so I'm sure I'd like the sound. It's quite a find to run across a "portable" in the wild with that much power!have you considered trying different speakers with it?
It has a great look about it... I cant believe its not portable?! Did I read that right?
Congrats Scott! I love mine! But I find mine has very good bass? I agree it is loud for sure, I also use the line in as well, it sounds great with a turntable or portable cd player...I love its looks as well, its o modern looking while being retro...Enjoy!
Nice find skippy
nice machine Skip, love the tweeter housings and the colour
Yes you read right Jeff,it is portable just like a 3 piece boombox, but it does not take batteries.

Floyd itd be nice a non working one and go to town it, wouldnt it..
Nice find!!
When I got mine the display didn't work either.
An open diode was the cause. Easy fix.
Perhaps yours has the same problem.
You guys are right, its VERY loud with decent
bass but lacks that deep rich element. Its
response quickly drops to nothing below 100hz.
Its rated at 30 watts RMS @ 1Khz per channel.
Also, another interesting fact is that the entire
front panel is made out of solid cast metal.
The unit will run on a 12 volt source but requires
the optional SH-5050 adapter which plugs into the back
panel.

Was it a Diode in the display section ,O P??

That looks a monster, Skippy! What are the dimensions?
The diode in question is located on the
power supply board. This board is mounted
next to the heatsink in the rear section.
Thats all I can remember. I'll pull the
front off and take a picture with a pencil
pointing to the possible culprit. It will
be a few days before I can get to it.
How is the mid-range? It looks like a nice handle for you to use, so its portable.
Thanks alot .O.P. That would be awesome!

Midrange is pretty Ed,it is portable ,but it doesn't take batteries though.

if that runs on 12 volt power at all im sure theres a way to mount a battery inside one of the speaker cabinets ,or both lol.
That's an impressive, solid looking machine!
Congrats,
skippy!

To do this you would need the SH-5050 adapter. This adapter
is actually a DC-DC converter which converts our 12 volt
source into 7 other voltages needed by the SA-C07.
The SH-5050 adapter is extremely rare. I've never seen one
in person or on Ebay. I only have the service manual for it.
One alternative to the above is using a power inverter.
I couple years ago I threw together a portable
120AC power source to run some stage props
for my daughters dance recital. Now I use it
on the boat to power my Kaboom or whatever.

well i must have one of those portable power things now lol.just a box with power outlets ,love it!
The picture above is so cool!
"...it's so big, D-Cells don't do anything - but
this monstrous battery powers it up!"
The diode I've pointed out in the picture supplies
current to the filament in the florescent display.
In my case, this diode was
open causing the
display to fail while the tuner still functioned.
Replacing the diode rectified the problem, literally
Thanks a million for the pic and info O.P.!
