they do light up jens i just did'nt have them lit up in the pic ,the crown 850 in the rare gray color.

I know for sure that the 999 and 1000 do have greenish light in the VU-area as all japanese models seem to have green light instead of white

unfortunately my camera is not able to take good or close-up-shots of the VU-section..all them pics seem to be very blurry

Akai 530 aj with continous tuning dial up light.And the same with the AJ 520.
A gf9595 with permanent light on the tuning dial up and a 24 hours digital clock format.I guess it's an original and not a modified version.It lights up when you plug it in.

Here are some obvious ones.
I have to fixed the burned out bulb in my mini Grundig .
other than that The only light less box in my collection is the M-90.
I might at some point light up the VU's
