I found this using the internet archive way back time machine, it's from Aiwa Japan's 1997 web site, nothing spectacular, first I thought the flip down front was a record player than realized it was a cd player, DUH, anyway 2 pics below:

Hmmmm,? no it sounded ok for a newer small unit. It had 4 speakers. 2 on the front and 2 in the back + Q sound. it's kinda like surround sound.
