Ah man... that is really too bad.

You have all the rare stuff on the front it looks like.

You can rest easy at night knowing that no one will ever see the back of it while its on display. But Id go crazy thinking about it all the time. Buying a replacement wont be cheap either.

i say give restoring it a shot if it fails you can always part it out ,do you have the scraps that broke off the rear case? if you do end up parting it out i'm interested in the woofer grilles and chrome trims ,but i hope you can get the parts to fix it up,

parts.....tray and speaker needed......

you know i say forget the other two options.
i say modify the boombox well at least the chassis could hold some new stuff and maybe you could just sell all the left over conion parts and make something cool out of the cracked shell. put a huge car stereo amp in there and maybe a subwoofer somplace maybe mounted reverse on the back.
i dunno i mean you could still sell of a bunch of parts to finance it. i think it could be pretty cool to mod the case into something new but still a boombox

Yea the back case is shot!!!
busted into a million tiny pieces I have all of them
all of the inner posts are good and so is the inner frame and boards so If I get a back for it ,
cosmetically and structurally it will be sound as a pound!!!
I can easily repair the corner and make it look like new again.

in fact i say build a cabinet based around the front throw a huge amp in there and put some home stereo speakers in there i mean you could even do something crazy like turn it into the worlds loudest foot rest. you could even mount some led strobes where the original leds go on that beast.
i mean its a bit worse for wear now but you could for sure have some fun with it and sell of the other bits.

I voted to restore it. These are getting harder to find and you are what I would call 85% to completion so don't give up. This would be no fun if it was easy would it?

So far as modding it I already have an original one that is in great shape and I would rather restore it if anything.

I am leaning more toward restoring If I can get the parts .
I love a challenge and love restoring old stuff.
But i am a fuss pot and if I cant get it looking and working really nice again I wont bother.

I say restore it. You have all the broken out pieces of the case, right? So that can be restored to near-new. As for the power supply, even if you can't find original replacements (although I think you will), you can still find (or make) compatible substitutes that will function.

On the other hand, my new Conion has some damage to the bottom of the front, but an intact back, and intact power supply (etc...) with possibly minor corrosion or wear issues on some front parts and missing the tape door. Hhhhmmmmm, between yours and mine, one complete, good Conion could be constructed, with leftover spare parts to sell. If you decide not to restore it, PM me and I might be interested in working something out; I want to restore mine. but alternatively, IF I get lucky enough to find a "mintier" one soon, then I'd part with my damaged one, and maybe parts from mine could/can be used to restore yours. I'll try to find another one tonight! {cue silly, over-optimistic grin!}

I say restore it! I was going to bid on it but backed out late in the game. Just get some JB Weld, sandpaper, and Dupli-Color plastic dye to repair the back.

Snapped PC boards can be fixed also. That's what I had planned anyway...

I think i have both pieces he needs. I have to take a look. Hopefully this week i will have a shot to take a look. I know I have a back, but i am almost positive i have the power board and supply.... damm short term memory lol

I should rephrase that, my short term memory works great for women and pizza. LOL

Please,please let me know, I definately want to try and restore this badboy. I started on it tonight and am planning complete teardown and rebuild.

Well still waiting on hearing about parts for restoring this Conion and the project has been placed on hold indefinitely till I can get the necessary parts to repair it.
I hate to part this bad boy out but its just collecting dust in my living room and looking mighty sad.
I know the parts are out there but nothing is happening yet.

seems to me like you just need a new back panel , a little gluing and some black spray for the speaker grills

Don't part it out! I want it if you sell and i can restore it.

I haven't yet clicked either way. That is one monstrous crack! I actually breathed in rather heavily when I saw that picture. I know it's a Conion, but you can't really carry it around with that gaping hole. If it's fully functional, I think you should purchase a new back panel if possible, simply because it's one of those "must haves".

Restock...it is worth it.

Any inventory is good inventory. The day will come when out of the now, which is all there is, the right parts avail themselves to you. Even now they are making their way to you, and will be there at exactly the right time.

Got started fixing the little damages to the front casing of the Conion.
one broken post and a hairline crack at the top left corner.
using two part epoxy on the inside and out for the repair.
it is sandable and will paint it after sanded smooth.

Amazing! I'm glad you didn't give up on it...and YES you have skills...i wish i could rip my Conion apart like that and be able to put it back together

Nice going! I can rip mine apart no problem,but don't know if i can put it back together

Ripping apart is easy, we all have that skill.

Ill have to say this is one of the easier ones ive had to take apart.
Ive had my other one completely apart for cleaning up and it went back together just fine.
Just make sure and label all the connectors before you unplug them, take some good snapshots before and while you are disassembling its a breeze.
I can probably do a complete teardown and build up in about an hour.

I believe in restoring it, and so far you're doing a terrific job. Tramsam let us know how everything goes with her.

Do you use a 5LB hammer and chisel too? Then lots of crazy glue for reassembly!
