thats great --
the reason that i always ask any members with 2 of the same boxes -- it that none of us non-original owners can know if our old boxes have 10.000 hours on them -- or some may have only 10 hours --
and i wonder what 25 years of use will do
They look AWESOME!!! together. You did a great job Frank!!!!!

Very good point. I have had duplicates (triplicates, quads) that each sounded different when I got them. Usually a good DeOxit cleaning brings them pretty close, but sometimes replacing aging caps with new ones can really "wake up" the sound and improve them further. I assume the re-capped sound is the closest to the original sound. Some sound pretty close to the recapped versions, when you get them; I assume those have just weathered the years better. But ALL the boxes sound at least a little better (not just static-free, but better) after a good DeOxit + Faderlube cleaning. Oxidation seems to be the number one cause of deteriorated sound, followed by aging capactitors.
Of course, I'm talking about the basic sound of the box; obviously shot belts on cassette drives can make 100 percent difference (sound vs silence).
The restored Conion looks great, now you've got to complete Conions congrats bro'.
Now the M-90 will you tackle that one?
Pretty Plzzzzz!!
Man, that's the most love I've ever seen shown an old boombox. That's what this hobby is all about, people.
Great Fantastic job!!!

Thanks everyone for the comments!!!
I really love this hobby and fixing old stuff has always been a pass time for me.
I am not an electronic genius but you take enough of these apart it gets easier with each go.
Hey and who knows you might save a box or two.
Just use your judgement when getting one and decide if its something you think you can handle. I just got a
M-70 that was listed as untested, I knew it would be dead but I did a buy it now and got it because it looked very nice.
I got it yesterday and it was dead and
Today it lives again.
It is like brand new inside . All it needed was a little work on the power connector where the cord plugs into the side of the radio.
It looks like someone tripped on the power cord and yanked it out of the radio hard enough to bust the connector off the board.
It took me about an hour to fix the board to find out it is fully functional.
Very little cosmetically wrong with it so I will probably keep it , take it the rest of the way and sell my other.
As for the M 90 well it was way too much work for me so I wont be restoring it in fact is is back with its original owner.
Transamguy fantastic job right there. You must be a very proud Father.
HAHAHAHA-- must of been reading one of Neds posts when I was writing. Any way great work bring it back.

astonishingly good work, you feel rightly proud
transamguy1977...Yo man you REALLY are skilled, and let me say that you re-built that Conion as good/if not better than how Steve Austin was rebuilt to become the Bionic Man
...this is now the official "Bionic Conion"!!!
