I have two lasonic trc-931 's coming my way. I originally purchased a square style one to restore. Then I found a round style re-issue and bought that one for a few parts. The parts I want off it are the chrome speaker guard, knobs and battery cover which appear to fit the square older box. I am only planning on keeping one.

Now the question is, do I keep the square or the round version box? I'd love to keep both but money is kind of tight and I only intended to purchase the other one for parts. Does one sound better than the other? I heard the re-issue has better bass but a cheaper feel to it. Is that true? Let me know which one you would restore and why. I'd love to hear your opinions. Thanks!

i would keep and repair the older one ,the re issue might have slightly better bass because of its more rigid cabinet construction ,i think the re issue is just plain ugly but its good for parts at least .

It is probably mostly personal taste, but I think that once they both arrive you will probably will know which one you would rather keep.

I would be interested in what other people think on this.... (I don't own either of them)

iv'e had both the sound about the same the re issue has slightly better bass but nothing significant .

I have the i931 now and I don't care much for the style, but maybe that's because of all the useless graphics they decided to slap on it. The tuning scale annoys me the most. I would have preferred an analog tuner. I had the block style 931 many years ago and thought it was much more aesthetically pleasing.

ultimatley the old one will be worth more in the long run ,i mean some of the original trc931's sell for more than the m90 or the conion.not thats its a better box just it seems like people are willing to shell out the dough big time to get one even though they are everywhere on ebay.

If you're gonna go retro...go all the way. Square.

i had both radios in the past, i do recomend the older model.

which square box? the one with meter on left or right

I'd keep the older square one. It's a better looking box IMO.
