I was reading through the JVC RC-M90 manual available here:

index.php?board_oid=193392314111653483&content_oid=193392314111859759 and remembered a debate about the power output of the Canadian (RC-M90C) vs. American/International (RC-M90JW) versions. Looking at the actual text of the owner's manual, it all makes sense to me now:

Power output: 8.5 watts per channel, min. RMS, at 6 ohms from 50 Hz to 15 kHz, with no more than 10% total harmonic distortion (RC-M90JW); 20 watts per channel max. (RC-M90C)

My theory is that the two models put out the same power, but the US-market model is rated using the more stringent FTC rules mandated by the US government. Note that there is no frequency range, impedance or THD specified for the Canadian model.

It reminds me of when my parents bought a new 20-inch Sony Trinitron TV, KV-20EXR10, and the box said "20 (21 Canada)". In Canada it was designated as a KV-21EXR10 because the entire 21-inch size of the picture tube was measured, but in the US only visible image size could be used in marketing TVs. The TV did not grow an inch due to being sold north of the border.

Ive had all the versions of the m90 there is...there is no power differance....basically they use the same amps...there ya go... good theiory....bullshit baffles brains...in the case of us young scool kids...back then it did...

Ey up lad hope your keeping good my friend....I may need your help man....regarding my new Aiwa ca100...the deck is dead speakers need doing bla bla...ill say this skip...I havnt heard her propperly but i think this thing will kill the 880 and ca70...had her apart and the transformer is huge compaired to the others...also the power rating is double the others...and the speakers are bigger...I love the ca70..but this unit may become my fave 80's 3 peice of all time..apart from the pc55..
