Defo lookin pretty rude man, wicked nice..and what makes it extra nice is when you press play on the cassette, the Night Rider led's go accross the front from left to right..stuff like that alone makes it something different, something new..But its a nice box anyway..
radio.raheem - 2011-08-16 15:57
All with your help my man...hey i would like a gf1000 from japan lad...get me one lol
ghettoman - 2011-08-16 16:22
You could prob get a 1000 lad,and not that expensive, but its the shipping that kills it man, shipping from owner to middleman, middlemans fees and repacking fees, shipping from japan to uk,then if you get stung with import duty, thats another £42,all mounts up man..but its possible..

That's a stunner Radio Raheem!
A question though. It says "PASSIVE RADIATOR" on the bottom portion of the speakers. Are these not speakers, but air movement vents for the speaker enclosures?
I'm completely unaware of this model, sorry my friend....

Great job RR, and what a nice looking box. What's your opinion on the sound?

Try to imagine a speaker complete BUT Without any Magnet in other words a Complete Speaker Cone w/surround and a Center flat panel in this case cream colored made out of plastic like a weight that make's the cone and surround heavy to move against the baffle of the RADIATOR - that is what it is called there and since in is NOT Powered it is ( Passive ) . Therefore it is called a Passive Radiator and it act's like a Extra Speaker only allowing the 'out-of-phase' sound eminating from the upper Full-Range driver to only allow the Bass notes to pass as the Radiator is FLAT and therefore cannot reproduce the high frequencies since it is not driven directly by anything except the ( once again ) the upper full range driver ...
Understand this ?
There are basically Threee Kind of Speaker cabinets:
1. Acoustic Suspension - Sealed box with speakers inside Normally found with higher wattage speaker's in them and more critically sounding, less efficient watts per decibel sounding. Doesnt Sound very good at low volume
2. Bass Reflex - has a tuned port or hole in the box, tuned to the specific resonance of the woofer. Easier to drive - More efficent with watts to decibels. Doesnt sound very good at high volume
3. Passive Radiator - or ever changing volume of the box as it expands/contract's to the movement of the original woofer - kind of a happy in-between marriage of the first 2. and here it's simply trying to get more bass out of a volume/box at low amplifer power and sounds' only good to the listener
There should be NO vents in the above box with the passive radiator in them!
i need a drink .... brb....

I think james answered your question quiet nicley there blue,,the reason you are unaware of it is possibly that there is only 2 that i know of...i would say this is as rare as the bombeat 40 if not rarer....

Great job RR, and what a nice looking box. What's your opinion on the sound?
Thanks retro my friend...It's not the best sounding box i have heard BUT certainly not the worst...It isnt mega loud like all toshibas...but it has everything the wx1 has but half the size...im so proud to own this box retro...something nobody on boomboxery has lol or anywhere else....there is one in russia as i found out..with some investigation...but im not sure exactly where it is in riality...as there is a pick on there of mine with 3 m90's in black and white...

Hi Brutus have you ever tried to build speakers of your own based upon the parameter's of the design of your speaker box and the sound that you wish to hear for the application that you have thought of? No? I have
Secondly have you ever bought speakers? & when buying speakers do you take your music with you and pay YOUR music through the speakers that you are wishing to buy before you take them home with you ...
Gee I could write a book on this subject...
I've built many a speakers system for many individuals but I never made much money at it... I'll leave it at that..
and then boombox's came into my realm... oh boy....

nice box radio raheem, you done a great job there looks stunning
radio.raheem - 2011-08-17 08:08
cheerz subbo...getting the tosh name level on the passives was the hardest thing
brutus442 - 2011-08-17 10:11
Sorry James. I've never had the urge/ knowledge to build my own speakers, but I have and always do bring my own cd/ dvd/ and tapes (back in the day) to the stores to test out the amp/ speaker combo's.
Today you have to be even more vigilant because of the outputs on theses newer amps. Quite a few sport fiber optic ins and outs with either D/A or D/D converters on amplifiers. This can "distort" the sound you'd actually achieve at home unless you had the exact same setup as the store...nevermind the room acoustics. It's buyer beware and be aware I'm afraid.
Back in the 80's I generally stuck to one brand if I found one I like. For speakers (and this is IMHO) it's Polk Audio and amp/ pre-amp or tuners, generally Bryston, Carver or Marantz.
I still have my Marantz and love the sound but with today's digital outs I regret to say it gets limited action.
The Polk's are still a staple in the surround system though or get plugged into the JVC 550 in lieu of the OE speakers
