Teac LPR500
isolator42 - 2011-09-08 01:06
Is it me, or is this quite a cool machine:
http://www.richersounds.com/pr...c/lpr500/teac-lrp500
A good brand, & looks like those old 'music centres' from the 80s, with the added benefits of a remote & aux-in for an iPod dock.
Sadly, it doesn't look like you cancan plug in extension speakers & the tape deck doesn't record - probably because the CD player does
Here's the manual, if you're interested:

Paul, nooooooo. It 'almost' has nice lines but just imagine the quality of that turntable.
isolator42 - 2011-09-08 01:43
Cris, fair enough, it's not exactly gonna make you throw out a decent turntable.
If this was a HiFi lovers forum, I wouldn't dare post this.
But, for what it does, it's clever enough.
I liked how it looks like the old 80s cheap music centres...
ao - 2011-09-08 04:14
Are you sure it's not one of these 'Naustalgia' music centres with the 2" speakes in the side?
isolator42 - 2011-09-08 07:57
I'm hoping the Teac brand means it isn't that bad. Internet reviews aren't much to go on. They either say "it's great" because it sounds better than the speaker on their mobile phone, or they moan about how the record deck isn't as good as some esoterica they want to show off about owning themselves.
Back in the late 80s (or possibly early 90s) I think NAD produced a "Cassiever" (CD, tuner & amp in one box) & Denon did a "Cass-CD-ceiver" - CD, cassette deck, tuner & amp. Both may have even been supplied with speakers...
ao - 2011-09-08 08:24
I guess it's the whole 'bundled' approach to audio, it's kind of frowned upon for it's 'off the peg' lazy approach. I agree, Teac should know better, B&O would never do this though they did do some pretty shonky (but nice looking) music centres in the 70's.
It all depends on our ears, most under 30's these days haven't really heard anything better than a nice stack system so are unlikely to compare, it's only us oldies who were raised on 360 watt Marantz receivers & Lynn Sondeks who are really entitled to this level of snobbery.
here is one with a brown trim...

iso that record deck looks well poor..cheap snide needle that would probebly damage your records, and look at that cheap plastic platter,be good if you could get a nice mat for it,then see if you could think about changing the cartridge and needle for a good quality one..then it would be nice..
radio.raheem - 2011-09-08 20:23
My friend has bought something very similar.......it lasted 6 months..litrally...he is about to throw it in the bin...it reminds me of those cheap matsui hifi for 99 back in the 80's....i wouldnt tuch it with a barge pole....
There are some hifi lovers here like me...and i can say you dont need uber end hifi like the brands stated...put it this way my grado rs1 headphones TOTALLY can't handle my hifi,,,my sonys from japan can though,,,my point is...we all know how good grado arw...it's just i have always chozen my hifi wizley...

Don't forget the Ittok arm & Troika cartridge to go with that Sondek LP12, Cris - ah, those were the days. I remember thinking that Technics SL1200 was a bit flash & not 'hi-fi' enough. I'd do unspeakable things for a good one of those, now my Dual turntable has given up the ghost.
That's the sort of thing it reminded me of Tim. Amstrad, Saisho, Ingersoll, Fergerson, all those heavyweights(!) nailed their badge onto those aka black-box no-name plastic disasters. But oh, did they sell. Most every girlfriend I had owned one, usually with a copy of The Joshua Tree, or Invisible Touch in permenant residence on the cheap, scratchy plastic platter. The "never-mind-the-quality-feel-the-width" approach always wins through...

yeh, on balance, I'd much rather have one of these:
Audio-Technica AT-LP120.
A Technics 1200 style machine at a price I might one day be able to afford. A decent brand & with USB out as well. Might see if I can find the old wall-mounted Target turntable stand...
Oh, here's some bulrb from the manufacturer:

I have both, the 400 & 500. Being teac, you can imagine, they are very well made. Sound on cd is excellent. As agentorange said, the turntable let`s them down, only having a ceramic cartridge. Would have been a lot better with a magnetic cartridge, and, provision for adding your own. Overall though very good.
radio.raheem - 2011-09-09 08:30
Im Realy suprised at you owning up to this rich...all those eggs must have gone to your head.. hope your keeping ok lad...me just had the police here..very unnerving....but hey if it wasn't for the police this country would prolly be like iraq
litfan - 2011-09-09 09:11
Believe me lad. If i wasn`t in the state i`m in now, i wouldn`t have one given, but, alas. If you are not bothered about tapes. The gf-350, is the best option, as, it has magnetic cartridge capability.

litfan - 2011-09-09 09:32
I made a mistake. It`s the gf-gf-650, that has magnetic cartridge .
ghettoman - 2011-09-09 09:46
like i said ealier, them cheap needles can do more damage to your records,i would defo think about changing the cartridge and needle to a decent quality one..

My Linn deck, is still in the shed, boxed. I was in the hospital for 8 months. I came out, went to play a record, The linn was making a loud hummong noise, so, the decision was made to get the teac.
radio.raheem - 2011-09-09 11:47

Thanks for the offer of a 707 lad, but, i have a mint one upstairs. Came in original box, packing, literature, etc. It was a BIN for £40. I jumped on it. Yeah iso, the earth is the first thing i checked, wasn`t that. I also have dual direct drive thing. It`s the 741Q or something. Thing is, i still have so much vinyl. Just needed something to play it on. Mind you, i use the sony ps-f9 a lot. It`s a little diamond.
litfan - 2011-09-09 12:13
Just remembered. It`s a 731Q, not 741. Got it from germany, where else?
radio.raheem - 2011-09-09 12:17
Haha I have a mint boxed one to lad with everything...cost about 50 quid....sad thing with so many boxes lad they never get used...had a mint boxed dt75 too but got shot of it,,,used to love eggs lad....but i guess there not retro enough...eather that or i just can't be bothered anymore....been ill in bed most the day with diabetes..
litfan - 2011-09-09 12:30
Cheer up lad. Things can only get worse. I feel fair to crap, but, what can you do? The only egg i really fancy, is, that japanese victor rc-x999, with the motorised rabbit ear speakers. If only peppin could snag me one. Where is he these day`s. Remember frank, fyj something, where`s he these day`s?
radio.raheem - 2011-09-09 12:38

bison - 2011-09-09 14:53

£42 quid for a blank tape? That *is* insane.
Tim, if you're dying to get rid of a Panasonic RX-DT707, I might be able to take one off your hands
