ghettoman - 2011-09-30 16:55

i'm starting to see more and more people selling Sharp GF777s on ebay, and all i see is "this is not a cheap chinese copy thats going about" What the hell are they on about, there was never a cheap chinese copy, they might have moved production from japan to china, but they are exacly the same..justt annoys me..where did they get that stupid info from ?

Well i dont know where 'they'? got that blather from.

Bought 2 of them Sharp GF-777Z 's or 777 's whichever..

Read about them, Played them, Too complicated to operate, Too Difficult to repair if ever got broken, Fortuneately the Two here never did.

Didn't ever quite got into the "wall of speaker's" sounding Style of boombox, these like the Magnavox D8443 Boombox, Magnavox D8300 Boombox , Emerson CTR 965 Boombox and now they are all gone

Sharp GF-777 or Sharp GF-777Z Boombox Both Sold

These Just never got the attention from us as they while being big an such and got the look's of what is that... Just never really had the Musical Sound appeal we wanted, So we sold them.

or sold Yaaay

p.s. i like the title to this thread...

Absolutely right just some of them (small amount) were "chinese".

...And  they even weren't made in china, only assembled.

Looks like someone wants to rise the value of their boxes, saying: "this is not a cheap chinese copy".

James, when you learn to answer people's questions, then you may ask your questions.

To answer BMs original question, the GF777 seller is referring to the steady availability of Chinese *sourced* GF777s on eBay, which have had a sometimes less than perfect reputation for delivering a fully working boomer.

Sometimes these can be identified for having suspiciously new looking big stickers on the speakers, to posh up the boomer a bit, cosmetically. If those stickers were as old as the boomer, they would be faded, worn & peeling, surely?

In the sentence "this is not a cheap chinese copy thats going about", The word "copy" has simply been misused. The Chinese sourced boomers are genuine enough, but their condition might be a bit of a gamble - especially considering return shipping costs & the language barrier.

Well am glad that Isolator42 made concise sence of the orginal question. searching both computer's cant believe that, don't have any picture's of the Two (2) Sharp GF-777's that were here with the faded lable's that we bought from oversea's back in 2007 via epay only found these pictures and (a video clip - still not uploaded to ?) of the buyer of both of these 777's

p.s. we Gambled and won the opportunity to have won these 2 to video and play with till the excitement and Realization of just how big and delicate and hard to repair that these are and sell them for no profitJust desired the $ we put into getting them is all.  Seeing that these are going for over $1000.00 on the internet now is of No concern

i agree with what ISO says, the dodgy stickers make the china 777s look re-made,but all it is, china sellers have downloaded or copied the grill stickers and had them re-printed,so probebly uk and usa sellers with not much knowlege of boomboxes ect..they will probebly think that they were a re-make,but with the amount of 777s still going about these days,i dont think it would be financially viable for china to re-make any 80s boombox, but if they did i for one would think it would be fantastic,i'de buy some

But the return shipping is a big issue !! like i bought my lasonic 975 from usa,the seller said that just the tapes needed belts,so i bought it for £250,had it shipped, but when it arrived it was alot worse than the guy said eg,both decks not working, most of the selector buttons not working, some of the graphic sliders none responsive, ariels had been replaced, but they were so big,the handle would'nt even go down, but he never mentioned anything about these faults,i complained to paypal, they contacted him,and he agreed to give a refund, but to send it back would have cost me £100,which i would'nt get back,so i was stuck with it,luckily i sorted it all out now,but it was a nightmare at the time !!

So,buying From Overseas is a Big Risk !! especially worse if you are buying one of the cheapo black/chrome type boxes..they cant take much of a knocking..
