Which aiwa sounds nicest ?

ghettoman - 2011-10-24 17:12

Just wondering which aiwa sounds nicest out of 600,660 or 950 ? and which ones are easiest to repair the deck on ? and which ones are a pain ?

radio.raheem - 2011-10-24 19:50

the 600 660 are in the same line as the 880 paul..had a 770...and the 880 is the best....never had a 950...i thought you had one lad...

radio.raheem - 2011-10-24 20:08

Ohh and the 770 880 and i think the 660 share the same deck,,,the 600 is mediocre...i had one...but that was yrs ago lad...prolly a better bass than the gf8989 but the 8989 prolly has slightly better clarity as the 600 tha bass and treble are on the same slider...ie you turn the treble down and this amplafies the bass...

- 2011-10-24 21:09

950 on 9-volts sound the best

Then if you add more batteries like the 660 on 12-volts and more amplifier power

then it Now is the better choice

600 Takes 8 batteries and is wimpier than the 660 = Equals best choice

770 takes 9 batteries for 13.5 volts

880 takes 9 batteries for 13.5 volts plus 2 aa's for the digital part.

926 takes 8 batteries .... and is th smallest and therefore the least bass

990 takes 8 batteries aaahh dont really know cause the one I have is a parts box an dont work but would still chose the 950 then the 660 then - just not really interested in the rest of these except to fix em an sell them and or also Go forward from here to a different brand other than aiwa...

correct me if im wrong james...but you dont realy know about the 880 eather...as from what you have told me in the past your 880 is a parts box too as all speakers need reafoaming....never had a 950...so i can't comment on that..

deliverance - 2011-10-25 03:58

i have a 950 and 990 the 990 is louder than the 950 ,  but with the 950 i struck lucky it just needed cleaning and a band switch knob which skippy sent me from the states , the 990 needs belts which should be here any time bit of a sod to do so i have been told no doubt i will find out ,  the 950 is a all round cracker .

litfan - 2011-10-25 06:34

No one has mentioned the tpr-968. This is a blinder.

well the very first time I played the 880 it sounded great untill I turned up the volume and watched as the surrounds disintergrate before my eyes while playing that first time... it sound great untill then... Money and getting this fixed will solve this issue.

Once again You gotta Get a Aiwa TPR 950 to FULLY Appreciate what it can do Operating on ONLY NINE (9)-Volts...

Sure Any other Aiwa here is Louder than the the 950 but the 950 has So Many Features in it that Simply TOP's what ANY of the Other Aiwa's can do here running on Six (6) Batteries = Nine (9) Volts

Compare the Feature set of the 950 versus any other one aiwa here = none are equal !!

You Gotta simply get one - 950 - then you will know  - Exactly !

as Deliverance says the ( 950 is a cracker ) - does this lingo help

does anybody have one ? Is this a common model ?
found a few pictures...

litfan - 2011-10-25 07:27

It`s not a common model, but, they do crop up, now and again, especially on ebay germany. The japanese version (cs-80?), is even nicer.

litfan - 2011-10-25 11:08

Ey up lad. Thought i`d pop in for one of our tate a tate`s. One thing the 950 has, is, volume that goes up to 11 .

redbenjoe - 2011-10-25 11:11

the 950 is also the worlds best sounding SIX battery box

litfan - 2011-10-25 11:14

Ira. Raheem, is the worlds best 6-pack box.

radio.raheem - 2011-10-25 11:16

Ey up son.. i would like a 950 but i doubt it is loud enough for me as im going deaf lol...

my best box of late is the crown 970 son...what a cracker...and it has soft operation...it's basic inside BUT if the bombeat 40 is anything like this...the 970 sounds as good as the m90 it's a cracker

I do Not have one.  I'll Leave this model be, as it's unusual, and be content with the standard model's and or just the 950

Since this is thee First time ever even seeing this model in over 8 Years - it is Not for me.

Imagine it sound's smallish being that it is a smaller box upon the idea of the Hitachi 3d8's that it look's like kinda.

I'll stick to the List of boombox's I have 99percent of which are for sale!

litfan - 2011-10-26 14:52

I had one. It went, with the rest of the collection. Doesn`t sound that good, as, it`s dinky. If it would have been made bigger, it would have been a serious piece of kit.

litfan - 2011-10-29 05:50

Just thinking about the j50. When roddy came for my radio`s, he had almost finished packing them up into his van. I remembered, the j50, was in a chest, in my bedroom, i fetched it. I must say james, out of all the mini`s, this dissapoints the most, as, it look`s like it means business. Jeff, yeah. He was 880 mad. Used to love chatting with him and bav, in the chat room.

mellymelsr - 2011-10-31 21:22

Of the 3 Aiwa's you mentioned, the 660 sounds the best. It is actually a large boombox...bigger than an M70. With the DSL turned on the 660 sounds wonderful. It has very deep, rich bass, crisp highs, and clean midrange sound. I have a Sanyo 9994K and several M70's and the 660 will beat both of them in the sound department. The M70 has more power and performs better when very loud but at half volume or lower you it would be hard to find a better sounding boombox.

- 2011-11-01 03:19

In a picture showing both the Aiwa 660 and a JVC RC-M70 can you show the size difference as i believe that the 660 is simply Taller by about 2 inches than the M70 and therefore has more internal volume ( space for the bass to reveberate in ) and therefore has a bit better sound in the bass, than the m70, w/dsl engaged in the Aiwa, as I No Longer have a M70 ( out of the boxed One ) to compare with?

ghettoman - 2011-11-02 07:07

damm i'm a fool,i asked about the aiwas, then forgot to read back on it..thanks everyone for the input, well i have had a 990,beautifull looking box, nice sounding, but Awwfull, unnessassery overcomplecated deck, thats my only thing i hate about the 990,if the deck was easy to service i would love it,but i dont,i hate it..

the 660,i love the look of that box,and i would have one, aslong as the deck it nothing like the 990..

litfan - 2011-11-02 13:24

Ey paul lad. Have you and raheem, been exchanging spelling tips . My 990, is still chugging away. Never rated it`s sound though.

ghettoman - 2011-11-02 15:02

ha ha sorry richard, when i posted that i'de had'nt been awake long, and i could'nt see the keyboard properly lol,yes sometimes i make plenty of spelling mistakes, thing is,i never used to,but seems that now i'm getting older i do it more and more,if it carries on like this, all you will see out of me is %$^*+ durr ugg der der ugg think i may have dementure or alzeimers lol, brain freeze...

redbenjoe - 2011-11-02 17:26

seems like the little 950...

held its own --thru this thread

superduper - 2011-11-02 23:58

Ira... have you heard the 660?  Cuz I think the 660 has better bass than the 950.  Perhaps almost 880 like.

Not only has he Heard it* he sold it to me

Normin, Ira had a 660 an Sold it to me!  Of course the 660 has better bass as it Has More Electrical power

to drive a better audio amplifier and having more dynamic headroom.  The Aiwa TPR950 Operates on 6 D

batteries ( 9-volts ) versus the Aiwa CS-660H with ( 8 D Batteries @ 12 Volts )

Normin Let me Redirect your thought's ok? - Work with this idea...

Unlike all the Rest of Boombox's out there that Operate on EIGHT Batteries equaling 12-volts or more as

this exercise is about efficiency of operating a boombox on Six Dollar's versus Eight Dollars or more...

What boombox out there is Better Sounding than the Aiwa TPR 950 Operating on ONLY ( 9-volts Using 6 D

batteries ) ?

Certainly the 660 has more bass than the 950.... 660 has more Electrical power 12-volts versus the 950 with 9-volts of course anything will sound better

with MORE power

What Boombox ONLY operating on ( 9-volts ) Sound's Better than the Aiwa TPR 950 ? THIS IS THE '" REAL "' QUESTION...

here is some view's of these boombox's in question

Aiwa CS-880 using 9 D batteries Equaling 13.5-volts Plus 2 AA's for the Digital memory -

yah think this has more bigger bass, Having more Space/Volume + speakers...

Gee You would hope that this has more electrical amplifier power since it has More power!! to draw from...

Going back to 9-Volt powered Boombox's NOTHING BEATS THE

Aiwa TPR-950...

Prove it !

redbenjoe - 2011-11-03 04:41

well -

lets say that aiwa made some great sounding boxes --

all types

superduper - 2011-11-04 00:46

It's true that the Aiwa 950/955 are top doggies in the 9v boombox arena.  I've already discussed this in the other forum so don't want to type it all up again.  But the short basic reason is that these two models uses 4-amps in bridged configuration.  Normal amps can not produce more voltage at the output than what it takes in.  That's why voltge is so important as the voltage out is limited by the voltage in.  But when amps are bridged, the paired amps are capable of outputting twice the voltage or 4 times the power of the same amps in a SE configuration.  In other words, it may be working with 9-volts but is performing as if the voltage is much higher.  There is no true ground in this setup and the ground is known as "floating" ground.  Won't get into the technical details of why this is, but anyone desiring to know more about bridged amps and it's benefits can google it if they wish.

redbenjoe - 2011-11-04 05:17
