it's only for playback... NOBODY record's this effect into their music do they!!!?
Not major bands I have ever heard...
The Echo switch is like .... Think of a Echo between the left and the right speakers and vice-versa or in other words ( Stereo-wide or Ambience ) or similar acoustic renderings and this is a fixed amount via this switch - a sound that actually requires more power to reproduce to Hear and the same level's that you were playing your source in Stereo to begin with.
I dont like this Un-natural sound that this produces as this tends to Broaden the Stereo effect to allow the little stereo box to supposedly sound larger.?
Answer me this:? At the last outside concert you went to did they play their music in stereo OR EVEN At a Inside concert was the SOUND OR Music you heard ( in stereo  at the LIVE PERFormance ... No? didnt think so ...
Yes the speakers may have been on both sides of the stage but it was the EXACT Same sound coming out of both side's of them....
There-Fore the JVC RC-550 RULES the outside Blasting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bet you cannot Hear the stereo effect from the other End or side of the Playing field or accross the road from your Boombox

Hey James!
Just FYI , Pink Floyd did both their "Momentary Lapse Of Reason" (1987)and the "Division Bell" (1994)concerts not only in stereo..but in quadrophonic sound...and yes both were outside! AWESOME concerts!!!
Congrats on the 777 deliverance....echo or no echo, you won't be disappointed with that box.
Cheers

"Z" model's - sheesh - SHARP GF-777Z versus GF-777
how many time's gotta say this - having a z on the back is the
VERY Same thing as having no z on the front...
ghettoman - 2011-11-24 02:34
i think i have hurd that the Z model is supposed to have less power, which would be probebly a good idea really because the speakers cant take full volume anyway..but they are still a nice box..
as for the echo,i remember taking mine apart to fix the rew / ff problem, and next to the decks is a long box with a spring in it,i think thats the echo thing..also james,i think where your echo is on your 777,the same knob on my 999 is pitch control for tape speed..
claret.badger - 2011-11-24 05:39
i thought it was the otherway round
any road up - they sound good
look awful - designed by commitee
good work overpriced - only worth getting for under 300 quid (under 180 if you're me) OVER 400 if you're on the payroll

there must still be boxes of this caliber out there in the wild, ive seen a few for sale that needed attention and the odd one or two that were obviously cherished in somebodys collection.
so they are still out there.
davebush - 2011-11-24 12:02
yeah they r still out there for sure
