aiwa tpr-990

stereo.mad - 2012-01-02 13:12

iv got almost no sound on the left channel, i opened it up to see if i could spot the cause of the problem and found nothing but after putting it back together it was working

i now had a new problem,it needs belts and the motor for the tape control buttons was spinning and making a clicking sound and the record button light was on so i opened it up again,i managed to sort the problem but when i put it back together again i was back to square one! no sound on the left channel

can anyone help

mitchelljames - 2012-01-02 13:18

I had pretty much the same problem on my Hitachi 8300, sound only working on one channel, opened it up works fine closed it back up, one channel again. Thought it must be a pinched wire or somthing but couldnt find anything

stereo.mad - 2012-01-02 14:30

tell me about it guy"s!!!

when i opened it up and saw how involved it was to do the belts i thought f*#k that the belts can wait

litfan - 2012-01-02 14:34

Yeah. The gearbox. There`s one screw, that has been put in the hardest of places to get to. I`d love to find that japanese site, where, it show`s someone servicing a 990 deck. The whole lot is taken apart to clean. Then, put back together, and, it works like new.

here's a idea for a video... of the

docs - 2012-01-03 01:18

I managed to carefully do mine after about 2 days or painstainking carefulness. It is possible but there is definitely a knack to this deck.

I had no sound in one channel on mine but that was down to the channel's amp chip which when replaced fixed the issue. With yours it sounds like something has a dry joint or have you tried cleaning the pots and external connecteres as per usual.

Sounds to me like just a bad connect, loose wire or something. Not very serious...just difficult to find sometimes. I've had a couple like that.

lol,i tried to do the belts on my wilco tonight,it didnt look that difficult but i need a better workspace if i left it overnight the kids or the cat would wreck it,

i changed the broken antennas for sharp 9090 ones then put it back together...

bottled it really.

think im gonna get one of my cheapies out and go from there.

geoffhartwell - 2012-01-04 15:56

yer 990 pain in the ass to fix, did mine about 4 years ago and done my yearly testing on all my boomboxes this week and the 990 is still going strong

mitchelljames - 2013-06-22 11:06

Ive just got of these, hopefully will get it next wed/thur.

I really dont know much about it at all so it may be a bit of a risky purchase, i may well be picking a few brains if it has any issues.

Keep your fingers crossed for me

northerner - 2013-06-22 11:11

Congrats a top quality box, mines minty but knacked deck and only one channel...it's off for repair tomorrow as I've failed to fix it. Really hoping it can be sorted as its really classy looking

If anybody has any 990 pics with other boxes could you post please as i have no idea on the size of this box.
