But it says "stereo" right on the front of it :(

It's 100% MONO. Though there's an FM STEREO light there is no mpx circuit, so it's mono. The light stays lit all of the time when it's switched to FM. It has a mono tape head, and mono amplifier. Even the SD and USB inputs play back in mono.
Ok, so I should have known better. I had read somplace that the Supersonic verstion of this was mono, but I thought this one (labled Quantum FX) wasn't the same box. After all it does say STEREO right on the front of it. Oh well. Live and learn.
Why would I bother with such a thing in the first place? It's $50 and has USB and SD card slots on it. Besides it's not every day you can get a brand new cassette box, so it was kind of hard to resist. Also I have one of the new mono one speaker cassette/radio/SD/USB boxes that's nothing special, but I'm rather fond of it.

It's a shame. There are a few interesting looking boxes coming out of China now that I'd love to get my hands on, but I'll be hesitant to take the plunge again.
For $50 it's no real loss, but I do wish it was what it claims to be.
If nothing else this will serve as a warming to anyone interested in picking one of these up. Anyone that sees this post, anyway.
There's another one from the same outfit that I wouln't mind getting IF it's in stereo. Though it's a bit on the fugly side.
Junk, yes, bit I'm thinking it's fun just the same. The odds are that it's another rip-off, though.
I love the idea of having a SD slot on a box. It's nice to be able to just slide in a card and play whatever you'd like. Older technology combined with the convenience of today's digital to me would be the best of both worlds. Sadly nobody seems to have gotten it right yet. The new Lasonic is alright, but the tuner isn't so great and there's no cassette.
