The ugly boxes of the world !, is this one!

boomboxace - 2012-05-24 23:07

I rate this Soundesign tv/dual radio cassette box as one that could be considered as a late 80's ugly box , show us some of your ugliest boxes , i only collect one piece boxes , but there seems to be more less desirable boxes with detachable speakers.

i was offered one for free yrs ago....sounds rubbish...so i left it there

note some of the 3 peice sound better than any 1 peice...i have one...and it makes boxes like the m90 sound mediocre.....but i will always have a place in my heart for the m90 as i have fixed so many

I hear what you say radio raheem , i see lots of 3 piece boxes , and i can't really handle that totally square look , and once you separate the speakers from the rest of the unit it's really a stereo system , i don't know, i guess i'm just too old school to get into them , but you are right some of them sound fantastic, i have time for the sharp 800 etc

haha....bba...i have been here for donkeys yrs...and have always defended the m90 with my life...i do love them always will....and would love another...there just not worth the money people pay for them....i sold mine for £500...only reason it wen't for that is because that is what i had invested into it....quite honestly wish i had never sold my main boxes now...because the money earned...just went on bills and  a laptop that hasn't turned up...and a walkman that was basically trash...still the box i miss the most is and always will be my gf1000.for personal reasons..such a beutiful box...especially after i had cleaned the speakers....they were like brand new...white and not that horrible tarnished yellow

Pretty sure Saisho (the Dixons UK own brand & by-word for cr4p) did an AKA of this TV box. That said, I have a big Saisho (got it cos my brother had this model) & for the money it cost new, its got good features & resonable sound.

Although fun to look at, anything with cheesy 80s graphics filling up acres of fascia space is likely to be below par on sound, IMHO.

This is what most people I knew in the late 80s thought of the Lasonic/Crown black & chrome boxes, & now they're sought-after, so what do I know, eh?

It's not just ugly, it's Soundesign ugly. Not to be confused with Emerson or Lloyd's ugly

I remember their old cheeseball stereos. Everything crammed into one big case with an awful plastic 12V ceramic cartridge turntable sitting on top. In reality the insides were nothing more than cheap boombox parts including a maybe ten watt amp chip. What made them even more fun was the fairly large floor standing speakers that were big enough for a ten inch woofer, good sized midrange and tweeter, yet had a single four or five inch full range driver.
