Woohoo! I'm new :o

ultraneo - 2012-09-23 16:00

Hollaaaa!

Hiya, I'm UltraNEO from the northwest, completely new around here. I figured there's no easy to way join a community other than come say hi! - shyishly.. lol

I would have to say I adore music, without it I don't think I would of been so successful during my college years as an art student. Nowadays, I have an love affair with technology both old and new but mostly it's computing hardware; occasionally I've been known to tinker with electronics, purely to experiment/repair or restore something treasurable. Anyway, I joined the community to seek more info and possibly contribute.

Since birth, I have always had access to my family's Sanyo MR-416, wasn't till recently did she past it to me for keeps. It's still fully functional without crackling tone knobs, however it's in retirement now. From my brief online search, very little is know about this boombox other than it's extremely rare!! Anyone here have one? Who'd like to see more photos?

My first boombox was the awesome Hitachi TRK-7620HC purchased from the electrical department in Boots, all those many years ago. Unfortunately this beast was stolen from my home after a burglary For many years after I kept the packaging purely to store books, unfortunately without thinking it's been discarded as recycle paper - Yes, I'm now kicking myself cause I know there would be people who'd love to obtain it to make their system feel more complete.

Recently acquired a couple of those fantastic Hitachi boxes (photos will be posted as soon as they arrive) though to be perfectly honest, I didn't buy them to collect but to access to my extensive audio collection which just doesn't sound the same when digitized.

retro - 2012-09-24 06:08

Hello, and welcome aboard !

northerner - 2012-09-24 06:46

Didn't recognise the Hitachi number Iso....I got one of these lovely 3D's Ultraneo and it's a lovely mint box tho not everyone here loves them as much as Iso!

bison - 2012-09-24 07:03

yeah the 3d trks are good boxes, not everyones cup of tea but i think if you collect boxes you should have one,

i have a couple including a shabby 3d80 that i want to try and speaker swap the woofers

out of to an older trk if they will fit

Those 3D80 centre woofers have been transplanted into a fair few more 'classic' boomers over the years - notably into a GF555 with reported excellent results...

You needn't tell me twice, dude! I'm already broke. Think I'm gonna be selling me neighbour's kids, their grannies and the damn dog soon

Unfortunately some people just have poor taste. lol

Nowt wrong with teh "shabby 3d80"! I'm kinda tinkering with one at the moment, she's in a right ole state, looks like she's been deep-sea diving, currently tone deaf and semi-mute plus the tape motor or mechanism is whirlingly crazy!

ultraneo - 2012-09-24 21:18

Now I can't find many photos of the Sanyo MR-416 boombox online except a brief mention here. So, are there any members here who's actually got one of those? I'd love to know what accessories are missing from the speaker box, mine's empty but mom swears there used to be something init... And neither of us have any idea where the content has gone!!

Amazingly it still has the original antenna! I just pulled it up for show

After all these years the FM Stereo filament bulbs still works, so does the manually operated backlight. Infact, I think this box is pretty much flawless function wise, though the housing does have a few chips and considering it's age, it's done really well!!

Over the next couple of days I will be taking the back off, more photos will be taken during this time. Primary reason for doing so is to discover what's  rattling inside the main unit, I'm hoping it's non-conductive!!

lav.loo - 2012-09-25 11:15

hello from another fellow mancunian, nice to see a newbie post so much first time round stick around and soon you'le be in the deep seductive world of box madness like the rest of us nutters

ultraneo - 2012-09-26 02:22

Er... This is more my period. All them boomboxes you guys are lovin', I had them whilst they were new! Just couldn't afford them till now.

ultraneo - 2012-09-26 03:08

Whilst you guys are on the subject of old. Here's my microcassette-corder from several decades ago; perhaps it could of been something that Neil Armstrong might have taken to the moon and back? I dunno but this baby has been in my possession since new. The amazing things is, it's still working!!
