Sunday Quiz
samovar - 2012-12-23 11:42
all at once i seem to remember... not clearly yet, but small (size) details are coming back to me. like the following:
lav.loo - 2012-12-23 11:59
the tuner dials looking suspiciously like a philips with that blue strip, but the speakers don't ring a bell? yet
metad - 2012-12-23 12:09
Aiwa CS-660
lav.loo - 2012-12-23 12:13
congrats metad that's defo the 660
samovar - 2012-12-23 12:16
Aiwa CS-660
chapeau... er... hat off to Metad --still under the evil spell i speak a bit loosey
today's mystery box is indeed an AIWA CS 660 thanks to Metad the superchampion who has given it back its sound -- and memory to me

Metad is always the answer
when it comes to terms on finding which box
we are looking for !
No mistakes for him, always on the spot!
Respect
mitchelljames - 2012-12-23 13:21
Metad sure knows his onions
metad - 2012-12-24 01:45

samovar - 2013-02-17 08:33
hi all, i thought it was about time to revive last year's sunday habit. hence today's quiz, which for once is double because one member knows the answer to the first one. so he is kindly requested not to answer it
quiz. n. 1
first clue, as usual, is meant to avoid that either deliverance or metad get the right answer in less than one minute...
quiz n. 2
this is for everybody, and i am going to anticipate that it consists of only 2 clues. here's the first:
deech - 2013-02-17 09:03
Is the 2nd one a fisher??
samovar - 2013-02-17 09:04
lav.loo - 2013-02-17 09:20
nice to have this back is 1 an aiwa 880 and 2 a technisonic can't remember model number?
samovar - 2013-02-17 09:25
nice to have you back Lav! unfortunately n. 1 is no Aiwa and n.2 no Techsonic, but please don't give it up!
i concede that the first quiz may be fiendish, but the box is known so i can't give away too much information. never the less:
quiz n. 1
as for quiz n. 2 i promised only two clues but given the circumstances i can add more:
quiz n.2
deech - 2013-02-17 09:27
deliverance - 2013-02-17 09:31
is number two a skankei
samovar - 2013-02-17 09:34
is number two a skankei
you mean a skankei anansei?
deliverance - 2013-02-17 09:36
no no no
samovar - 2013-02-17 09:44
time for big help then
quiz n. 1
now you have what you need to solve the puzzle
quiz n. 2
as a plus i can add that quiz n.1 is about a non-european quality box, quiz n.2 about a much cheaper unit of european pedigree...
deech - 2013-02-17 10:05
Still cant find number 2
samovar - 2013-02-17 10:12
both boxes have appeared on s2go, although only the first one (more or less) recently
quiz n.1 features a very shiny unit
as for quiz n.2, metad would have spotted at least the brand by noticing the unique format of the handle...
samovar - 2013-02-17 10:33
lav.loo - 2013-02-17 10:39
is number 1 a sanyo mx920?
samovar - 2013-02-17 10:42
samovar - 2013-02-17 10:44
lav.loo - 2013-02-17 10:47
beautiful box i really miss mine we still need to solve number 2
deech - 2013-02-17 10:51
Congrats on your new Sanyo M-X920 Sam !!!
Great box !!!
samovar - 2013-02-17 10:59
thanks deech for not giving away the solution of quiz n.1! you already know the story of this beautiful box of mine so i'll make it public now.
the box has a few cosmetic issues, but except for the tape deck it works flawlessly!
i got it from e-bay for only 35 euros. how? the guy who sold her must have been dumb! i was so lucky as to find the auction as soon as he posted it. he found her at his uncle's, abandoned. the tape deck was out of order (but this is normal). it was dusty (but dust protects the chrome) and believe it or not the guy thought that the radio didn't work! it was not even listed as "boombox/ghettoblaster", the pics were out of focus, the Sanyo looked extremely battered and the guy had written "nothing works"!
to make a long story short, when i turned the radio on it didn't work as expected. but i fiddled a little with the switch and lo! FM started to work! i haven't had the heart to tell the guy that the radio was way better than he thought, i believe he may suffer from an heart attack!
i didn't anticipate that quiz n. 2 was going to be so tough. i'll add a few more pics to make it easier
samovar - 2013-02-17 11:08
john.nolan - 2013-02-17 11:11
is number 2 a philips sound machine
samovar - 2013-02-17 11:12
is number 2 a philips sound machine
unfortunately not
radio.raheem - 2013-02-17 11:35
i knew it was a sanyo 920.....just couldnt be bothered
samovar - 2013-02-17 11:41
so i won't even ask you to identify the second, much cheaper box...
samovar - 2015-10-11 06:20
Time to revive this old thread of mine. But first I'll give the solution to the last quiz, which amazingly is still unsolved. My last mysterious box was the unheralded...
Grundig RR 1000
Neither sought after nor top of the line, this little fella is the kind of box that passes easily unnoticed even by expert. Only this can explain why nobody recognized, among other clues, the typical Grundig handle.
But enough with loose ends. Time for a new quiz, so be ready!
metad - 2015-10-11 06:32
Keep on rocking Samovar, this is a nice thread)
samovar - 2015-10-11 06:42
In order to keep things interesting, today I was going to use another uncommon model -- to wit, the Mitsubishi Jeagam 8200 D'oh! Imagine my surprise when Rudy posted all those lovely pics of his 8000...
Never mind, I had a handy backup box at my disposal. I did take a few shots and here we go.
The following is the first clue, which may or may not give away the solution immediately (so much depends on metad, who so far has the biggest score in the solution department...):
metad - 2015-10-11 06:46
Lasonic
samovar - 2015-10-11 07:03
Lasonic
My cheapo clue was meant to catch the newbie, not the expert --but of course you didn't fall for it, as your smile suggests No Lasonic. Here's another (well...) help

Grundig's are not too common in the USA so this is/was a very hard to not ever figure out just what model this was but the people in the European theater should have been able too know of this model.
samovar - 2015-10-11 08:12
hi Nick. The box is neither the Intersound 747 nor any of its akas. More clues:
autoreverser - 2015-10-11 08:15
well, if you say it got detachable speakers i might know the answer...
samovar - 2015-10-11 08:20
well, if you say it got detachable speakers i might know the answer...
you can detach the speakers with an axe if you are in a destructive mood, but i wouldn't dare...
I wonder what is the model you had in mind anyway
autoreverser - 2015-10-11 08:23
Varesa RR 5645
autoreverser - 2015-10-11 08:25
...just checked pics of the one i owned, it isn't... sorry !
