What do members think of the JVC M50 and its sound? It looks more like the M70 than either the M60 or M80. Would it be a worthwhile addition to complete the JVC collection- I have the M90, M70 and the 550 monobox at this point. 

One box, i`ve never heard. Looks like a mini m90, but, i`m guessing, it`s way behind, in the sound stakes. The m80, is a nice sounding box, spoiled, by the speaker covering. Hey RR, this is a coincidence. You are giving advice, to your apprentice. He`s already picked up your spelling skills.

i like the look of the m80, not despite but because of the speaker coverings  a few months ago i was offered one by a private, but i don't trust this guy so i didn't take it.

Which Brand '555' ? are you referring to?

If you mean a JVC RC-555 - that's a really tiny bbx "6 D batteries worth" versus any other model's here

Try the M50 out. I believe that the M series are quite average sounding other than the top end audio quality of the M70 and M90.

It is true the M80 is not the best sounding box in the world but it is not that bad either, and what it lacks in bass it certainly makes up for in sheer quality.

Congrats retrodos, try not to compare it to the others in the range with superb audio quality, it is a different beast with different things in mind. Overall the M80 is an excellent box and oozes the usual JVC quality.

Congrats morice.....great deck great build just don't expect to much....the only jvc i would recommend is the jvc pc55 best deck in the world on a boombox with dolby c better deck than an m90 and the unit splits into 2 peices plus your speakers ohh and the pc5 aint bad eather but you will need to reafoam the speakers..

you were right about my amp lad....one just sold for £250...guess i paid £250 to much for a cardboard boxes and manuals gutted....but who cares at the end of the day i swapped it for a boombox lad

Depending upon the Nostalgia you need get a 838 // Hard to find a complete working 838 and with only 2.2 watt's per channel they are not that loud

The m90 and m70 will alway be their best efforts. The m80 looks well built from pictures, as have two motor cassette deck with logic control and music scan and looks to be a real tweeters and decent tuner, better wow and flutter specs then m70. But only 3.5 watts RMS per channel, so not as powerful as the m90, or m70. Sure be worth restoring and sound decent enough.

Looking for a good condition jvc pc55, were the display still works.

What box did you get for the amp, or do you mean you traded a boombox for the amp? Amp of course would sound better overall as separate components and cost more during it's day, and better built quailty.

i traded the crown 970 for the amp.....the amp is a keeper my friend as it has always been my wholy grail amp....dispite what she may be worth i wouldn't trade the amp for any box.....she is only on small speakers sb m300 but she makes the kaboom sound like a tin can

Any decent HiFi component will beat out a box, just due to the fact more cost in them and runs on higher rail voltage and only on AC. Boomboxes are not made for home HiFi replacement, but made for outside use, where most only run on 15 volts rail, so the internal amp is limited and runs of batteries and have to conserve mah. Some boxes were pretty decent for what they are design for, as back in the day most time was spent outside.

You are correct. Using tube pre-amp and dual mono block kt88 amplifier, never was into solid state amps.

valve amps are the best but to correct for this i use twin graphic eq 2 x 12 nothing compairs to this when in use....you can actualy hear and feel 20 hz or lower with big speakers....much cheaper same result

What about, a pair of quad II`s. These things, are starting to fetch big money. Best amp i had, was a beam echo avantic sp22, from around 1959. Bought it from a bloke for £10, sold it for £100+ That thing, was sweet as a nut. treble, like you wouldn`t believe. Watch it RR, or, i`ll send duncan norvel round. He`ll put you over his knee. Ooooo matron.
