Does anyone have any info on it, or experience with it? I'll have one soon as a fixer upper from a freind. Do they sound OK or are they

Thanks gents, I received it yesterday (pics to follow tomorrow). It's a heavy, well built unit. It needs a little TLC and an AC cord (got one somewhere)

Picked it up today...

As you can see it's in OK condition. Eject door won't open so I can't test the deck but the radio works and this box is LOUD!! Never saw that coming....

The other issue is the right LED is maxed out all the time on every mode (Tape, Radio Line in) any thoughts on this ?

If one set of LEDs light up to show the strength of the station tuned in, then the other could be a battery/power level indicator, which  will be at max when the boomer is plugged in.

Perhaps there is a switch somewhere to change from the tuning/battery mode to sound level meters?

I have one box with Analog VU meters, which show one meter for Power level and the other for Tuning Strength, but in reverse. Means the meter will got to the maximum and come back to zero when the radio signal strength is maximum.

Anything similar to that in this unit?

@ Isolator42 and AE-Stereo. There,s no switch for Batt testing  that I can see. The LED's stay active on all modes (tape, radio and aux/phono). I've not tried batteries yet.  The speakers balance works perfectly and I don't hear any hum from the right speaker....thoughts gents?

@Mr Vu I'll have to weigh this and get back to you. All I do know is it seems quite heavy, or I'm getting weaker

try giving the record/play switch on the cassette deck pcb a really good clean - if still no good it looks like an electronic fault - pretty rare with these japanese units!

obviously clean all the other mechanical switches too as well as volume & the eq sliders, that may well be all you need to do

Thanks Lav. It does have a Fisher look to it (probably the tweeters). I've not had a chance to crack her open yet and see what's causing the LED issue or door issue but I will soon!

@Mr Vu...this box weighs approx 21lbs (9.5kgs).

Man I can tell you about that bad boy up and down, I used to have one in college back in 1984!!!! I had up until about 1985 when a friend of my mothers broke it. I could never get it working again... it was the BOMB!

My mother purchased it for me as a 'going away' present from Sears. It was on sale for $250... the original price was something like $425.

The LED's on the front are actually for right and left speakers. It also came with the soft eject buttons for the cassette, and soft touch for the cassette controls. Personally I always thought they were capacitive since they were so sensitive.

Brutus, I would buy it from you whether or not it works. Just the memories of would be worth a fair price. I've been searching for a replacement on and off for years but forgot the model number then damn! I got the urge and did another search and there it was!

IF you were willing, I would buy it from you and I can guarantee it will never leave my possession again!

Way to go Brutus!! Hope Diskman cherishes it for life. My childhood box was a Sanyo M9975. There's one on fleabay right now but i'm trying to hold out for a minty one to come along.

Just got it in today, they dropped it off at the door. Talk about packing, that bad boy was ready for WWIII! Not complaining, better too much packing than not enough!

Talk about bringing back memories, I showed it to Ma and she about fell over when she saw it. Her apprehension to my purchasing something from my younger days faded right a way as soon as I turned it on and it lit up!

Brutus: From what I see, there's only a couple of little things wrong, nothing major. The door problem, figured out. It was the cassette carriage getting in the way, You can adjust them up/down but I wouldn't recommend it since it can turn into problems reading cassettes. So I'm going to talk the alternate route, just rebend the spring that pushes the carriage into place.

As for the LED string, I'm leaning more towards the volume slider being a little bit worn. When you slide it back and forth you can easily hear the metal dust inside causing problems. Might just go ahead and remove it for cleaning or try to replace it all together if possible.

To be honest I'm surprised there was so few problems with the movable parts, they must have used some SERIOUSLY high quality components when they built it. That could help to explain why it was originally $450. I seldom have electronics last more than a year or two before they start having all kinds of usability issues... moving parts being the main culprit.

I can imagine the look on your Mom's face when you showed it to her...it must have brought back great memories. 

They don't make anything electronic these days to last more than 2 years. It's our disposable mentality I guess.

Talk about hitting the mother-load, downloaded the manual for the TX-82 it include schematics, part numbers for EVERYTHING, and specs for just about everything you can imagine.

Also found out something, the 'power supply' for the TX-82 is actually a mobile phone power brick. It runs at 12v 10a... the requirements in the man are 12v 42a! Talk about a difference. It also takes a standard 120v power cord that's relatively common to find, just have to find one ;-) I'm going to try the one from my floor fan, its pretty much the same style but blue.

I think the power issues will correct most of whats going on with it. Cassette carriage not retracting (from what I remember it's supposed to), the LED level light acting wonky. If the level light is not corrected, there is an adjustment nut inside that allows adjusting LED levels ! God Mitsubishi hit it on the head with this model!

I can attest that that Mitsu is built like a tank! It's a sleeper box for sure!

Power cord from laptop works along with the one from my camera *lol* The only thing left is the cassette player (not too worried about, don't have any decent cassettes) and the volume slider :-)
