Today's Car boot find

benlib - 2013-02-03 04:43

Clip
Got this today for £3

Not tested yet but looks okay

Is this 90s?

nak.d - 2013-02-03 05:02

£3? Even if it needs work, nice little find. Judging by looks alone I would say this was circa 1986... I'm sure the experts will confirm though.

bison - 2013-02-03 06:47

nice find benlib they are still out there in the wild

deech - 2013-02-03 06:52

lav.loo - 2013-02-03 08:01

northerner - 2013-02-03 10:33

Can't Seem to add pics with my reply using the iOS app

nickdoofah - 2013-02-03 18:15

it's definitely 80's mate 85/86 i'd say

andyboombox - 2014-04-23 02:18

check out the serial number on the back-sharp date their boxes within the serial number-ie....a box with the serial number 10965438-this was made in september 1981-how do you know?well the very first number is the manufacture year (1)and the next two numbers are the manufacture month (09).bear in mind into the 90s it works in the same principle-0 would be 1990,1 would be 1991 etc etc-hope i havent confused everyone

benlib - 2014-04-23 03:42

Thanks for the reply!
Will have to dig it out and look.
Since posting I've actually opened a retro shop but mostly selling clothing.
I really want to sell some of my boom boxes in there as they look
Awesome and fit in good but whenever I pick these up they literally never work
How hard are they to fix up?

northerner - 2014-04-23 04:51

How hard to fix?...anything between an absolute doddle to nigh on impossible

A basic service using contact cleaner and a rebelt is pretty easy and fixes most boxes. If components have failed then it's a whole different ball game.

Just give it a go on a low end box first

tster - 2014-04-23 11:44

Welcome Ben, great find man. For the price of around a pint you have a little piece of 80s goodness What part of the country you in mate?

benlib - 2014-04-23 12:41

Hey man
I'm in Milton Keynes!
Some decent boot sales round here but I don't get to them
As much as I used to !

tster - 2014-04-23 13:00

Ah cool, Milton Keynes is nice, I'm down in sunny Cornwall, just no ones told the sun yet Loads of bootsales here and I try to hit up a couple each weekend.

Keep us posted on your finds mate

northerner - 2014-04-23 13:09

Milton Keynes ey?...got a Sharp GF9000 on eBay from MK and as my sister lives there she picked it up for me. She says the big car boot there is fab not that she's found me any boxes from it

benlib - 2014-04-23 13:26

Will do, I have around 15 or so and one of our concessions in the shop has around 5 for sale - will post some of those up on Saturday

andyboombox - 2014-04-24 08:23

it depends on what model to the difficulty in repairs-the cheaper end ones like sharp 4646 and the like are a doddle-i can do a toshiba rt 120/80 etc in ten mins,20 max if the belt has gone to gooyour bound to pick up a worker at some point-if your looking for a good shop display model thats not too dear to buy then try a gf8989-ive had so many of them that im bored of the model however if you have never had one before i think you will like it-and so will the customers
