And I dibs the first one out of you and I scotty
It's been a personal grail of mine for years and years so I'm seconding scotty's verdict. It's beautiful too. Love the square grilles over 8" drivers look.

M70 for sure. The sound is amazing. The look is classic. Superb build and quality. But will confess that I have not owned a Clairtone.

Thanks for your answer guys !!!
This is interesting, it looks like the M-70 gets the vote only by those which the 7979 is unknown.
Lets see if theres more answers to this question by thoses who own both of them.

I'm another!...got an M70 and love it!! Don't know about the Clairtone
traveler - 2013-02-13 07:10
Cholo1 You should start a NEW Thread and ask who has a Clartone 7979 ?
I dont
pioneer - 2013-02-13 07:26
Ah i would say the JVC-M70 sound wise and the Clairtone for it's look's appeal.I own both and perfer the sound quality of the m70 that is a top notch build
bison - 2013-02-13 07:36
got to be the m70 hands down, not seen a clairtone like that in the flesh but it
looks like they borrowed a few styling tips off the sanyo 920.

To stereo mad:
The sound of the 7979 is great also!and a great look..ilove my m-70 but cant compare the look to the 7979
To traveler: you are right a should do that, seems like not a lot of peps has seen in the flesh or has own a 77979.
to PIONEER: thanks for your reply, one vote for the m-70 from someone that own also a 7979 thats good!
i would say it all depens, i ve also own 2 m-90s and i prefere the sound of 7980 or 777 to the m-90, i sold both my m-90s...but thats me.
to bison: you right the 7979 kinda looks like Sanyo 920, it looks you guy are big fans of JVC...its a good thing
thanks to you all for taking time to answer my question.

mine just sounded pantz lol no excuse haha m70 and m90 are just over rated boxes....wish i didn't have my kabooms or stacks....i doubt id be happy listning to an m90 again....id just criticize it's lack of bass like i used to most of the time
lav.loo - 2013-02-15 14:00
we all know your a massive fan really Reno an m90 is one of the top boxes i have never been lucky enough to own so i think it's the knowing il'e never probably have one that makes me cold towards it iv'e said it before and il'e say it again, i'm not a fan of the look but i would snatch one in a heart beat if i ever got the chance
radio.raheem - 2013-02-15 14:09
used to be a huge fan lav...spent years fixing em and had alot of pleasure doing so....so i have fond memories of that.....if one turned up for £200 id think about it...otherwise move along...i won't loose any sleep over not owning one now

i reckon the clairtone will turn more heads too, the m70 is bland looking
cman750 - 2013-02-17 15:32
Matter of opinion , if batteries are a issue rechargeables are a easy solution , calling the JVC RC M70 bland is a matter of personal choice , especially when longevity is questioned the machine still looks and performs great as many other boxes apparences (design) were based on the RC M70. Question is does Clairtone exist presently ?
JVC - Clairtone
If the RC M70 is a chore to carry perhaps a trip to the local gym will resolve this issue reason being a better constructed machine. Conduct a present day sound off and let the boxes do the talking. Chances the JVC will out number the Clartone in pure numbers available is operating condition.
I did not have any issues back in 1983 carrying my RC M90 around as a young teen .
By the way Clairtone was sold to my home province Nova Scotia in 1970 and dissolved in 1979 .

Is there a machine that actually pounds that is not a bit heavy , like I mentioned if battery life is a issue invest in rechargeables , I did not say carry the actual charger , around on your person ....plus when these machines were manufactured back in the day weight concerns was not a priority , time to man up, or carry a small light machine .
Guys in my hood were more into the beats than worrying about how much weight was on their shoulders .
