what box you cranking up today?

nickdoofah - 2016-07-24 14:31

Oh Dear!!

I'm afraid it's the 850 again

Even playing some 1976 Al Stewart, the Crown never disappoints - the stereo soundstage & bass just roll effortlessly from the speakers................so pleasing to listen to this stereo

Crown CSC-850L - July 2016 [31)

Been jamming this since I opened the box. The DJ Tech boombox. Sound and bass crush any 80's 1 piece. Very impressed with this medium sized modern boombox.

nickdoofah - 2016-10-08 13:46

This machine needs no introduction at all

Often forgotten & underrated these were of a very high build quality & finish as my near mint 656 & can fill a room with a very nice sound - bouncy bass & a very crisp treble

As it was brought out of the 'Boomer Storage Room' a week ago, it was time to plug her in

Once again, it was a great reminder of how good these are!!

Check out the soft eject in the video............36 years & still everything works as it should

Any similarities with the Tosh rt-s913? Those speaker rings are making the boombox look mean. They do have the same speaker rings i think. Now i need one of those.

This box is the same size as a Sanyo 9994. It is mostly made of pressed wood with a sealed rear cabinet and vents facing forward. Bass and clarity are superb. The sound is very similar to a Panasonic 680 but with harder pounding bass. It's sound signature is warm in nature due to slightly recessed mids. Treble is very crisp yet non sibilant. Bass hits hard in the low and medium range. Even at loud volumes it holds it's composure with very little detectable distortion. It's rechargeable battery lasts 5-6 hours at medium to loud volume. This is a great little boombox for a cost of only $250.

Rudey is it the filming equipment or does that thing have really deep punchy bass? Either way i love it, that level display is awesome

nickdoofah - 2016-10-12 12:53

Just an iPad. It is punchy and crisp. The problem with this box is that every box you play afterwards sounds like crap!

Paid the Boom Room Vault a visit a day or 2 ago & retrieved this gorgeous little Sanyo M7800K

Today was playtime & a stark reminder of how bloody good these things still are!!

Incredible full detailed & rounded sound - people must have been amazed back 79/80 when these were on sale - not only great sound but beautiful design too.......

This is the reason I love Sanyo mini's  something so little can sound like this

It would be rude not to post a 4K video of it would it not??

& some Powerful 90's Dance

sony fh909 with depeche mode, and loving every minuite of it, must have taken a year to fully fix this radio with all it's faults....wow how time flies lol

Arrived today, sounds nice, and also sounds different to anything else I have. All works very well and recordings are quite gpod. 4 band Radio, lw/mw/sw ok, fm really good. . Tape or sd/Bluetooth tape has good detail, I'm going to have to Taylor my recordings though to get the bass it can deliver out of it as some tracks are awesome and others are a bit lacking

That's a nice rare box Rachel....if you don't mind me asking, how much did you get her for????? i know it was on our ebay but i forgot to watch it, congrats Lass

easthelp - 2016-10-13 18:06

Forgive me if I'm being obtuse -- I did post a "Great Wall Of Text" minutes ago after not getting much sleep -- but I thought that "Rach" was short for Rachmaninov or Rachmaninoff or some other such august Russian name of a guy! (Blush)

I know, I know: simply clicking on the member's screen name would flick one to the member's Profile webpage. That way, one knows whether to address them as "Madam" or as "Sir" -- or as "Lass" (to be all familiar like our Reno).

So now I know. And good-looking find there, Rachel: Marantz is synonymous with quality, albeit usually with home stereo equipment.

Uh, Rachel: I suppose you meant "good" in sentence 2 and "tailor" in sentence 4. Hope I'm not being stuck-up ... madam. (Grin)

Posted using my phone , knew as soon as I posted I'd typed the wrong Tailor lol..  I do tend to use the wrong spelling and spot it afterwards. Sometimes it's the predictive text ,honest haha.

I rememberMaranttz hi-fi. Always lived the quality ,and the colour!

I'm surprised it isn't "Champagne Gold" or is it just a poor photo ?
I always thought the unique colour was a cunning plan by Marantz to lock you into buying nothing but their equipment.

Poor photo, it's Champagne Gold. Your right about the colour , although I did have another amp that colour which was a Harmon kardon. Very nice.

It could happen lol, I've already have some doubles. If I see them for sale again I still get tempted especially when they are "too much of a bargain not to" . Looking at some of the threads here, I think I'm not the only one :-)

The Toshiba WX-1 is certainly a big, impressive-looking portable stereo. To be sure, some collectors would shrug about its 32-watt power usage -- or, more specifically, its loudness -- not being stunning. Fair enough.

But let's note that both its upper-offset dual-cassette-deck styling and its speakers-for-lower-half design are similar to that of the vaunted Sharp GF-777z.

At this point, some would observe that all those sliders give the WX-1 an edge over the '777 in terms of editing and mixing audio playback and audio recordings. In fact, isn't that one of its other titles: as a sort of "Music Editor"?

Anyway, I logged in to comment about the partial, other model number that HR shows with this YouTube clip of his. The boombox's rear data plate shows the model number: RT-S983. Isn't 'S893 part of the model number of a single-deck Toshiba stereo?
