spring is coming soon, so i`m looking for a (first?) box...

gearwheel - 2013-02-13 04:35

well, im not interested in a really cool box which keeps collectors and users smile...

i am searching for an affordable, nice and shiny silver box from the 80s with VU meters for a video clip. another hobby from me is filming clips. i am searching it for a dance clip. so it doesn`t matter, if its a high quality box. its just for show and shine ... but well, i saw, that ppl just buying like crazy that old boxes o.O .... any tips for me ?...

Hi,First of all were you from and how much do you want to spend?
Depending on that I maybe able to help

plop - 2013-02-13 05:48

I was like you wanting my first boomer since the early 90s when I sold off my last one, a Sharp twin tape with X-Bass. Something to listen to at home and also loud enough to blast in the park or garden.

I didn't want to fight collectors for an 80s grail, but I did want something that was loud, capable of decent bass, some eye candy such as VU meters, and with a range of inputs such as tape, aux and CD.

In the end I settled for a very reasonably priced JVC RV-DP200. Ok it isn't an 80s box, but something a lot more recent. It is extremely loud, and sounds great. It has controllable sub bass, bass and treble too. It also has some fancy bits too like remote control, CD pitch control and drum machine (which I would never use !).

VU Meter's in a boombox; Is a Tall order to find, reasonably priced Then in a Shiney box will price it even higher

Forgo the VU Meter's and then you will have a plethora of bright Shiney box's to choose from

i have already one of these tube looking boxes, it`s a JVC RV NB-10 in white... it`s really cool for training, especially indoor... but it looks ... well ... common and doesn`t have a nice silver terminator look ..

stereo mad : germany, and well .. first i need to know, which price classes are out there... mostly i go to search something cheap, and it ends up with some stuff, that was twice or more i wanted to spend -.-...

whats available for 0 - 100 €... and maybe 100 - 250 ?

i saw this model, with black VU metres, senator ctr 2226 :

at the bay between 50-90 € ...

but sometimes available for a few bucks .. .25 ... in summer, where all ppl. are in holidays ...

sorry for dumb questions, but i`m new in this ...

edit: no VU metres is a dealbreaker ...

Germany has a fair price for shipping overall to/from the USA.

VU meter's - ok - You gotta have and so do most people w/boombox desire's.

Cannot tell you how to spend your $$

Find several model's you like all at once, inquire of the member's here

(several model's at 1 time) - so that you dont give away the one you really want!!

Cause there are "those" out there that will bring to market what you want for ridiculous price's and or bid up the one you are also desiring  Because they TOO can read in this forum 'Without being a member'

So you need to be carefull in your posting's here or in any other forum's like this.  I've seen this occur, recently about antenna as a part for a Aiwa boombox

Find out all you can about the various model's from the member's here and then Do NOT tell anybody here Exactly the model you are really looking for, then you should be able to get your preferred model for a good price!

Everybody Want's VU Meter's in their boombox's - So You are Not alone in this quest

Good Luck in your Search

well, that universum wasn`t my fav choice, its just an example of a cheapo box with VU metres ... so, all ok ... i collect different things, watches, walkmen, cassettes, gameboy, etc, so i know how to behave as a collector, no problem ..

i also know that phenomenon of idiot prices, you`ve got that in every collectors field. once there is a field, where ppl. starts to collect, there are greedy ppl immediately ... but that`s normal ...

The Universum Senator CTR 2226 is an excellent unit, underrated in my opinion. Very loud, with excellent bass and fantastic line-in. My bro even prefers it to (forgive him, Lav Loo, he is still less than a Newbie) the Philips 8614

It has the merit of being cheap --I got mine for about 40 euros, full working--, quality built, with nice VU meters and a tape deck that, even if not working, is easy to repair. I strongly recommend it to you as it meets all of your needs.

Another great unit is the Sanyo M4500 KE. ebay.de always offers it at very low prices, it has lovely VUs and a very good line-in. I have a soft spot for Sanyos so I would say go for it because it is prettier and sounds so good... but objectively speaking the Senator is louder and its sound quality is even better.

This said, Lav Loo's favorite would be THE perfect choice, save for the fact that it has no classic VU meters
