A letter from my local council about a complaint from a neighbour relating to loud noise

the letter asks me to refrain from playing loud music or they will consider putting a noise monitor in the neighbours home to pick up my decibels i would'nt mind but i don't play it too loud and only for short periods.

seems society the government or whoever want's us to live in silence in mute mode.

is it possible to even breathe these days without any complaints?

And so you should Lav....I can hear it all the way across the pond here in Toronto...TURN IT DOWN

Seriously, is there a local law prohibiting noise between certain times? Here in T.O it's 11:00pm to 7:00am...after that pretty much anything goes. Did the local council cite a particular by-law in it's letter?

yeah i think it's 10pm onwards here Brutus, it does'nt give any details as to the time just a complaint about loud music.

The system is bonkers Az...they have to tell you when they're putting the monitoring equipment in the neighbours property. So you'll know when you have to turn it down mate

Can't see what they're moaning about! you've got a fine taste in music matey keep it LOUD untill you have an ASBO or a TV appearance on Britains worst neighbours

My buddy has the opposite problem, he's the one complaining . His neighbors (renters) two houses away are aspiring DJ's, they bump music til 4:00 - 7:00am, guess that's when they pass out lol! My buddy swears the bass ripples water in a glass on his table sometimes. He has complained to the neighbors, cops, council members to no avail. The problem is that there is noise restrictions xxDB, but this is for higher freq's and not lower freq's. My bud has since bought noise cancelling headphones to be able to sleep. Feel bad for him since he was getting 2 - 3 hrs sleep every nite for a while. Think my bud is going to move soon, must suck wearing headphones to bed everynite.

lav.loo - 2013-04-06 01:20

yeah i can see both sides here but my music is never played loud enough to cause that kind of noise.

anyway at the moment i will carry on regardless and if the neighbour feels the need to complain then they should come and ask me to turn it down rather than report me

Never  have had sound loudness issue's - people use common sense here - aka " Golden Rule "
