BoomBox Home Insurance UK

spaceboy - 2013-05-16 08:55

Hi wondered if anyone in the UK has insured there Boomboxes under there home insurance, and how to go about it?

my collection is getting bigger a lot more than i ever had in mind i started off with 1 boombox that i wanted as a kid the 777 and then my addiction started.

I know these Boxes are worth a lot to us, but how do you go about getting an independent valuation done to reflect the current market value to replace if they were ever to fall into prising hands.

any advice would be much appreciated on this

thanks peeps

That's a good question, probably best speaking to your insurer direct

Spoke with them Mark, but they said you will need the boxes independently valued, receipt etc to confirm its true value, well i know they are not a high value to the common joe blogs but to us we have some serious money tied up in these should we get burgled robbed, house collapses on top of them or if they just Blow the F up !

any insurance people on here ????

I think it could be down to market value and the market value can only be what you paid for it. As long as you keep the transaction details for any auction purchases these would be adequate to prove the value. It is what is used in the event of a claim against a carrier if something gets damaged on it's way to you. You will never get more than you paid for it unless you get valuations done and give an item 'antique' or 'collectable' status and then pay some insane premium to insure it as a specified item.

Thanks Nick Fish, yeah i was thinking of specific item insurance as some of the boxes i own now are worth in the region of £500 to £1000 each quite a costly bunch when you start adding it all up??

iv'e only a small collection compared to a lot on the forum God knows how they insure like 70 to 350 boxes if the unfortunate event was ever to happen.

i think i will buy a Big Ass Dog maybe 2 and fortify my boomroom.

To be honest, my household insurance covers up to £75,000 of contents with the stipulation that no single item is worth more than £1,500 unless specifically itemised. As long as you have similar wording in your policy and have photographs and serial numbers of your valuable items you should not have any problem proving that a) you owned the item and b) what it is currently worth to replace.

Big dog makes big mess. Not for me!
