D8614 shades of silver..

michiel - 2013-05-30 13:35

I just got my second D8614 and noticed that it has a lighter kind of silver appearance compared to my other one. It got a gray backplate. The other one is little darker silver and has a black backplate.. Anyone else noticed this? Seems there are two kind of D8614 models.

yes there is a few different shades Michiel, some also have the black plastic handle and different colour scheme round the led vu section. mine is model number d8614/05 the 05 being the colour code number, mine is the light grey. please check your last 2 numbers on the code which should be on the underneath of the box and get back to us. btw congrats on a cracking box

Cool! But they got both the same model number! Except the //

D8614/00

+ Dark silver body

+ Black backplate

+ Chrome and black handle

+ Speakers look more blue

+ UV meter black tuning/battery scale

D8614//00

+ Light silver body

+ Grey backplate

+ All black handle

+ Speakers look more black

+ UV meter white tuning/battery scale

From the inside I could see no differences.

When next to each other the light one looks bigger, the darker one more sophisticated. Just personal taste of course.. I like them both!

"ahh" that kind of throws a spanner in the works, usually the last 2 numbers are the colour scheme codes but yours both end in 00?? strange. personally I prefer the colour scheme of mine as it has the  chrome handle also light silver body and grey back panel. always thought the black handles are cheap looking and don't match the body well. some pics would be nice if you can

The last two numbers on Philips products from that time period do stand for revision. But also for region. /00 means it's the original model for the Netherlands/Europe, /05 is UK, /11 is Japan, /17 is USA for example.

A revision adds 20 to the last number. /20 is the first revision for Netherlands/Europe for example, /25 is the first revision for the UK, /31 for Japan, /37 for USA again.

Some alternate colored editons have a "R" next to the revision number. Those are official color variants. The black and orange version of the D8334 is called D8334/00R in full for example.
