I doubt it Andy. Just take the deck out, post it to me, I'll fix it, then post it back

Hi! how can the record bar be cleaned? only with a spray cleaner? I have to spray into the different holes of the record bar? or is there any way of dissasembling it?

The deck was knacked, it sounded crackly, and the vu meters were uneven, it was also a bit grubby...so the usual problems.

I said I'd post some pics to show Neil what I'd done so here they are:

 1. Box opened up

2. Deck removed

3. Plate removed from back of the deck to get the flywheel with its gunky tyre out...cleaned up and replaced with some silicon tubing.  Also replaced the main deck tyre/wheel as well as it was very unevenly worn and was pulling the tape off line.  Cleaned the heads as well, and realigned the play head as it was playing really muffled.

4. All sliders and switches thoroughly switch cleaned

5. Neil this is the record bar which you should always clean on a box, sits behind the tape deck in this machine.

6. Filthy woofers cleaned and repainted

7. The main case ready for reassembly after a thorough cleaning

8. The front got a bath and did a bit of sun-bathing

9. Reassembled and now fully working sitting in front of mine Photo 23-06-2013 10 43 34

Hope you enjoy Neil!...now to open one of those beers

Hi, with what did you clean the speakers, to avoid damage, and what paint did you use and recommend for painting the speakers?

thanks

shane

ps, do you carry servicing for a fee and if so ball park figure?

Hi Jane, could you please tell me how to clean the record bar? I have a spray cleaner for electronic circuits, so, do I have to spray it into the different holes of the record bar? or is there any other way of cleaning this bar? can the record bar be dismantled? thanks!

northerner - 2015-06-10 22:56

Hi. You don't have to dismantle the record bar! As you can see in picture 5 it has holes in it...just squirt contact cleaner in the holes, work the inner bar backwards and forwards 30 or 40 times, then if you've got a can of compressed air blast the liquid out. Job done :-)

Thank you so much!! I´ll try to do what you suggest.
