ALL OF THE ABOVE BUT WORST PISS OFF
Ebay charges 10% on the SHIPPING COST as a FEE TO THE SELLER.. WTF are you kidding me yeah they really do and have been ( just sold DD9, E575 HP and Sanyo boxed M-G110DT for very good cash ).
AND TO ADD INSULT THE BLOODY company PAYPAL that eBay owns charges 3 % on TOTAL paid to Seller yes thats right so they take 3% of the shipping that was included in payment by buyer. Try passing that crap on in a auction so buyer pays wont fly yet eBay simply steals more money that I should have got in my pocket because they can.
On my last 3 eBay sales
TOTAL FEES TAKEN ( Auction/Ebay/Paypal) 14.2% , 16.3%, 19 % ROBBERY !!!
Lower total % if eBay had special no auction charge etc.
OH and one of my buyers even though shows a USA NYC address to ship to he paid from China so paypal tacked on another 1% taken out of payment more loss to me I cant recover and had no way to know as it shows guy as USA and NYC ship address. Being a seller on ebay in past 3 years is a ugly experience not just the % they rape us but its all about protection for the buyer and seller gets beaten up and taken without recourse if buyer wants to really lie. I do a video day I ship item with start showing the front page of local newspaper DATE so if they say it does not work there is proof video taken SAME DAY AS SHIPPING receipt IT WORKED AS DESCRIBED !
eBay is all about the buyer.....
IDEA... POWER of the INTERNET... if was a computer geek bet way to email or somehow advertise or contact sellers WORLDWIDE to PULL DOWN ALL AUCTIONS for even just ONE DAY OR MY GOD ONE WEEK...TAKE THAT EBAY... MILLIONS LOST in ONE DAY. NOTE 11 BILLION IN PROFIT PAST 12 Months !! and $211 MILLION LOST in gross profit over a WEEK !!. Bet they would listen more to sellers then. Were just stuck because no other auction site even comes close to offering the worldwide mega audience to see your auction and maybe bid... sucks in all the bad ways !
OK RANTING OVER.... ughh God it riles me up EVILBAY !!!!
radio.raheem - 2013-07-05 14:54
i agree john lad...i don't and wont sell on ebay for these and more reasons.....but i have to say there are more dishonest sellers than honest ones on ebay from my experience....the only time i have no probs is with new stuff.....i'll give you an example mate...i bought a supposed mint boxed akai pj33 from there, saw it all working.....well she only arrived doa.....it actually works on d cells but not on the mains.....i didn't do anything but i should have as it cost over £200 as a buyer im all for power to the buyer...i have lost out to many times...there are just to many scams on ebay son
brutus442 - 2013-07-05 15:37
Shill bidding....................and then returned to Ebay as if the "buyer didn't pay" only to start the whole bull$hit all over again.
andyboombox - 2013-07-06 01:31
im with you tim too,lad-too many dishonest sellers on there, who think that a base model is worth the value of a conion c100,and price it accordingly-why?
ao - 2013-07-06 05:35
My approach to ebay is different. Yes they over-charge but in all honesty you really should be aware of this before you use it and eBay do make their charges clear. I use eBay a lot, I sell vintage bicycle components and whilst factoring in the 15%+ charge I do find that you can make this back if you're clever, use good pics with a solid, detailed & honest description, for me it nearly always pays dividends.
Case in point.
Recent auction for a set of 1992 Campagnolo Record Ergo shifters.
Other sellers -

Mine

Conclusion being that you need to make eBay work for you. Make the effort, try to sound like you know what you're selling, reduce as much ambiguity as possible but most of all empower the buyer into thinking they're dealing with the right seller, it rarely fails for me. 15% is nothing compared to the gains you make by deploying this approach. You heard it here first folks.
litfan - 2013-07-06 07:38
This is why, you are where you are cris lad. Shrewd business sense?
docs - 2013-07-06 07:58
I'd like to remove all the arseholes.
19lexicon78 - 2013-07-06 14:22
vintage bike components.
those things are getting too expensive these last 3-4 years. you have to look very hard to find cheap ones. everybody knows the price of campagnolo etc stuff.
years ago, i found it to expensive to buy a bike with c-record 1st generation components, cobalto brakes, for 250 euro.. times changed
no fun in bikes anymore.
but i must admit, my pina montello full c-record, mavic ssc rims looks very nice...
claret.badger - 2013-07-07 01:58

Oh wow, I'm impressed. Been after a Montello for years, settled for this 85 Mexico in the end. It has SR flute-less cranks, Campagnolo alloy freewheel, titanium pedal spindles, panto SR s/post & 2nd gen SR calipers. Mostly all NOS, rides like a dream though I'm slightly scared to even touch it. I've been dealing in Campagnolo kit for about three years now and have discovered a very lucrative market, especially the Far East.
