New to boomboxes Sony CFS w900

Hello boombox enthusiasts

I am new to the boombox world and this forum, mainly a kid focused on the higher tech gadgets and speakers the audio world gives us. Anyways, through my parents getting rid of old things, I came across a Sony CFS w900, its in pretty old condition and really never got used much in our household. I originally planned to sell it but came across tons of interests from potential buyers with me having no clue what it is. Bottom line, I decided not to get rid of it, instead keen on what it is and what makes it so special. I couldn't find any information on it online, and I believe that this community is the best source to uncover the secrets behind this old family boombox. Thank you

Welcome aboard ! you will find a ton of useful info all over this forum, enjoy the stay and keep posting to gain the most out of it !

The boombox and what it stood for, very much like your Sony there, has a culture all of it's own, giving the people a voice where politics played hard with their lives. Check out the history and you will suddenly know a lot more than you did about your Sony's heritage.

Thank you, I didn't realize that something I considered low-tech and outdated was actually a historical and cultural gem, not to mention kinda neat. I will be sure to use this forum and the community to satisfy my newfound curiosity with boom boxes haha

If you want to know more about history of Sony - there is one fine book "Made in Japan" by Akio Morita, co-founder of Sony corporation - you won't be dissapointed

Hello Nymph,

I think this is not because of respective technology as why this vintage CFS series being hunted, but because of the nostalgic memories stacked. I also want to buy this model if you would like to let it go, because it was my childhood living sensation.. I have this model in my attics, too much damages at electronics PCB that controlling the full-logic cassette mechanism transport, touch pad (the great touch sensor at the time back 85's) and power system failure. I'm so sad looking at it as it was my childhood entertainment world.. Great to see you kept it in an A++ condition. Plus my country has very high humidity, damp hot  weather, a very good care should be taken to let it alive until 28 years..

This model has great sound reproduction through 5 bands EQs, I still remember how crispy sound it has with excellent base.. but the volume slider always makin noisy after long time usage..
