Just stealing an idea from Lav Loo's post here

What 3 features do you rank as the bottom of the priority list.
I'll start
1. Short Wave bands.....never used it once.
2. Beat Cut/ Cancel.......I only listened to sports on AM..nothing else
3. Music Scanners that go beyond 10.....how many songs can you cram on a 45 minute side? (ie PC-55)
Fire away!

I would like to suggest the following as pretty useless/stupid, but can only think of 2 at the moment....
1. Battery compartment covers that are removable. Why? They only get broken or lost!
2. LED or needle meters that don't show anything when the tape is playing. Stupid.
Hang on; got another!
3. Line level inputs that are too low and can't be adjusted.
ao - 2013-07-29 00:44
I have to add the following.
1. Stereo speakers, seriously, who can really experience true stereo sound from a boombox
2. Microphones, be honest, has anyone ever used these?
3. Pause control, what does this actually do?
radio.raheem - 2013-07-29 00:49

Ok on a serious note
not deep enough bass (most boxes)
to heavy
not loud enough
andyboombox - 2013-07-29 02:15
im with tim, only the hifi boxes like the fh sonys etc produce enough bass to be honest, and more of the lower budget boxes needed bass and treble controls,or even an equaliser-on the other hand i love shortwave so to have a box with say a couple of shortwave bands is great (my rx cw50 has 2)
northerner - 2013-07-29 04:06
1. Twin volume controls...just why?!?
2. Meters that don't work with every input.
3. Cup holder
elektroneko - 2013-07-29 04:46
1: Hard to reach tape speed pots...
2: Line in's with automatic volume control that only works when you put a cassette in and put the player on record. A certain light bulb manufacturer from Eindhoven, Netherlands is very good at that...
3: Lack of any form of EQ/Bias correction (Not even a tone button?)
scottym - 2013-07-29 05:41
Loudness button. I mean why would you ever have this button set to off? Just make the thing with loudness as default and just adjust the volume to turn it down....

the horrid clunking noise from the decks of the m90/m80/m60 etc
andyboombox - 2013-07-29 05:57
yeah those dreaded clunking logic deck noises-nasty!and cup holder si?which box youve had has had one of those
bison - 2013-07-29 06:11
#1 theft/burglar alarm
#2 false detachable speakers
#3 no line in(epic fail for a box)
northerner - 2013-07-29 06:28

oh no I like the loudness button...just so I can turn it off then really appreciate it when I flip it back on again lol
nickfish - 2013-07-29 07:00
I agree with you Si,
It's nice to have the choice.
Having said that though, has there ever been a box that really sounded good and did not have a loudness switch?

The same is the case with Treble control for me. I keep it at max. always and still feel that a bit more can be there. (Bass control is sometimes used to reduce distortion when raising the volume very high) As Northerner said, these controls are there to let us appreciate their effect when turned back to full!!!
redbenjoe - 2013-07-29 09:48
1. SW is useless here ...
2. hate tone control -- even mini boxes need separate bass & treble
3. boxes that need record button active for line-in to work

Mic inputs?
Dial lights, pretty, but never use it.
Ambiance/biphonic. Always sounds better in stereo(personally)
And not really a function, but, but boomboxes with pictures of an EQ's, or Pictures of a spectrum analyzer sorry if I offended anyone.

I love the spectrum analyzer graphics on my 8614

External aerial connector (its supposed to be mobile after all)
twin tape decks ... Looks cool but even in the day most people wouldn't have recorded tape to tape (unless I'm missing something)
the edit button (sharps) ... Still not sure what it's for
