How Much Average Shipping frm USA to Australia

solebox - 2013-09-16 00:22

Hi, not sure where to post this so just move accordingly if in the wrong spot.

I was quoted $160 for shipping for a Helix HX-4636 Boombox. I've seen shipping to Australia from the US around $100-ish. I told him it's too much, he replied w/ "If it comes out to less I will refund you the difference."

Should i pay that amount on shipping or is that too much?

Thank you!

correction, not for a Helix but for Super Jumbo box.

The thing to remember here is that the seller posted this shipping price on his auction then you are by rights committing to that cost by buying the item.  It's the price to ship and not always the price for the shipping i.e. some sellers will add costs for packaging etc, it's not right but some do it.

Now, if the seller is telling you after the end of the auction that this is the price then you need to check it out as it sounds like he's messing you about.

What you need to do is ask the seller which courier he plans to use and how much the packaged unit weighs, with this info you should be able to get an accurate price yourself from the couriers website.

If the seller insists regardless of your evidence that it should be less then you should be able to go to eBay for a moan.

Thanks for the reply agentorange! i usually don't argue w/ shipping, let alone w/ those who are 100%. The shipping cost was not actually stated, i had to contact seller to request price for my location. I just found it a little strange that i've seen over a dozen boxes ship for around $100 priority international & he quoted str8 off w/ the number $160. He did say he'd refund the difference if lower - obviously you gotta trust his word on that tho.     Originally Posted by agentorange:

the 160 sounds decent to me -

my big box shipments in the past few years have averaged 200

for freight --way over there

ao - 2013-09-16 05:13

I forgot to add, the shipping doesn't seem that unreasonable for the distance involved.  You really should have inquired before bidding though.

solebox - 2013-09-16 06:53

that is what i'm doing right now. have not bid yet. Originally Posted by agentorange:

you've shipped international for 200-ish or you've paid shipment for that amount?

I have bought items of that size and weight (probably heavier) from the states to UK for between $100 and $150 but 200AU$ has been typical from Australia to UK. I can only imagine that the inland carriers in Australia charge a lot more than the UK or US so that adds a lot to the price.

Even surface mail only reduces the price over air by about a third; so not really worth the saving unless you are very patient...

i have shipped about 10 big boxes to australia --from usa-

US$200 was about average

mrupscale1 - 2013-09-16 14:50

$160 is good but the seller will find it will cost more. $200 is about right so you are getting a deal.

Thanks for your reply NickFish.

so true wize one....just buy from trusted members like redbenjoe here...you wont go wrong....he charges $200 from us to the uk......and you can keep the box for a coffin if you want...his packing is that good

solebox - 2013-09-17 19:06

Thanks 4 the heads up.

I won the Helix few hrs ago. Seller is going to do all the shipping stuff tomorrow & give me invoice. I'm keeping in contact w/ him and have msg'd him my concerns. Reading through his feedbacks many buyers have stated how honest and well packed his items are - that makes me feel more at ease. I'm willing to pay a little extra for good packaging since i ended buying the Helix much lower than i had anticipated.

He just msg'd & his using a company called Pak Mail to take care of the packaging. Don't know anything about Pak Mail but looking at their site they seem to be ok.

redbenjoe - 2013-09-18 06:13

thats good news for you --

pak-mail is a franchise outfit with private owners-

they self-insure their work above the carrier insurance.

the local one i always use is terrific-

so --assume , for now -it will be all OK

solebox - 2013-09-18 06:52

Sounds good! This will be only my 2nd box, 1st one that is fully working & in good nick. So i'm anxious about it's journey to me - very excited but hella nervous. It can't come soon enough!
