Hi again, Just thought I'd ask you good people for your opinions on the Aiwa Stereo 600. I think it looks quite cool, very 80's....but is it good? How does it rate? (Of course I'm not suggesting for one minuet that there is one fore sale on ebay!!)

all the aiwas of that generation are excellent boxes, and the 600 is no exception. it looks very classical despite the absence of VU meters --but there is a three-way linear led. and it sounds good, with a nice bass thanks to the DLS (Dynamic Loudness System). in my opinion it has also a very smooth line-in: my i-pod works better here than with many other boxes. i've seen plenty of them in the wild and on the bay, so you should get one at a very reasonable price

For me quality always pips quantity in the priority stakes!  Beggining to think that I ought to start taking these Aiwa machines seriously.

A loudness button can work wonders but I'm wondering if I can do better. Shame I can't listen to it! 

you should. if i weren't already SANYOvar, i'd be samAIWAr. aiwas are wonderful: very elegant and, as NickFish put it, quality units.

the 600 is a good box as already stated dont let the tone only put you off the dsl makes up for that ,   plus the deck is easy to do so happy days

In terms of sound though if i compare an

aiwa 945 with a jvc M70 which are about the same size

then the m70 wins at all times !!

It is an Aristona, that's a budget brand of Philips. It's made in Singapore, just like the Aiwa. Hope it's still good when it arrives, it looks pretty clean 

not to many of them about a rare bird i bet  .

It's a Aristona TR-5842, google doesn't know it. Looks like the speaker grills are silver. Hope it's here soon, will post pics

for once i have to disagree with deech. the m70 is considerably bigger than the 945. if we single out size and only consider sound, a fairer comparison would be with --say-- the 660. then the m70 will certainly win in terms of power (it's definitely louder). but in my very humble opinion the 660 has a warmer sound. it would be interesting to see if NickFish agrees with me, as he recently got a 660 and reviewed it very favourably.

this said, i see nothing wrong with going after a 600 and a 660 and an m70 and... you name it!

The 660 is warmer....that's one thing i don't like about the m70...lack of warmth
