I Won These!

seb968 - 2013-10-17 12:53

These are the first radios I have aquired since joining Stereo 2 go!

Aiwa stereo 600 and a Sharp GF-4343. I bought the 4343 simply because it's the little brother of my 5454! I will post pictures when they arrive!

Nice one! My aka 600 arrived yesterday. Can confirm that it is an aiwa from the inside. It has silver speaker grills.

Sadly someone else had been in it before The cassette wasn't working because the gear that pushes the head and roller up has lost a couple of teeth. Managed to get it going again by giving the pieces an offset upwards, so the missing teeth are overruled. But pause isn't working anymore because of this solution. I dont really care, it isn't going to be favorite anyway. It is a cool modern looking box tho

Well done for getting that Aiwa Seb! Nice looking example that one. The 4343...well that's erm...err...definitely a radio...congrats   lol...I've got a 4646...it's crap but its my teenage box so its treasured anyway

Cheers Michiel, it’s a shame about the pause function (these armatures that strip cogs I don’t know!) but great you got it going. I like the fact you can move the cog to use its good teeth! Mine was sold with a non functioning tape deck, hoping it's just a belt but could be in for a bit of fun!! This will be my first Aiwa boom box; I can’t wait to get it. If the excellent Aiwa cassette decks I’ve owned are anything to go by, I think I’ll love it.

Thanks Si, pretty excited about the Aiwa! I know the 4343 is going to be crap, if tape transport is anything like the one in the GF-1740 mono I've got it will be worse than crap. I bought it for two reasons really, 1, it was £7 (you will probably tell me I paid too much!!) and 2, it sort of completes the range to some extent (1740, 4343 and 5454) This saites my O.C.D.!!  Although the 5454 is much better put together than either of these and thats not particularly special! Still teenage machine you see!!

Thanks smeats, will let you know how I get on. Might try posting some pics of the repair process. Anyway you can allways drop me a P.M. of your fault and i'll try and help.

thanks Seb, I'll see how you get on with it, mine's on long term loan to a friend at the moment!

Replacing belts on these is easy, so that's a nice job. But avoid to open up the rest of the deck. Its a design ala sony. Lots of levers, small gears and springs. And they will come lose if you open it up and are a real pain to put back the right way! Post here if you replaced the belt and the head doesn't go up. The offset can be done without opening the piece up
