I've now run out of pocket money!!!
seb968 - 2013-10-21 12:32
Hi all
I have spent the next few months pocket money.....(and the other half dosn't know yet!) However it was for a damn good cause!!
seb968 - 2013-10-21 12:48
Cheers Si, I really can't tell you how pleased I am, can't beleave it!!! I have wanted one of these since the 1980's. If your right abot the switches that will be a fantastic result. . (Just got the 4343 I won today, it is a very sorry little machine, dead FM, non working tape deck and as you warned me, really cheaply made. Hard to beleave it's a Sharp!)
seb968 - 2013-10-21 12:49
well bagged seb a very good price to
Cheers mate, never thought I would ever own one!

we all have bought tat when starting this hobby seb
seb968 - 2013-10-21 13:09
Yeah, well, I have got some tat in my collection, but only because those particular bits of tat have sentimental value. I'm finding it difficult to beleave that i will develope any feelings of sentiment towards this. although it is similar in style to my 5454 it is far worse, particularly the tape transport. Maybe this is a challenge though modify it so it's good, bit like a "Q" car!!! Think I'm soon going to loose interest when that M-70 arrives though!!
deliverance - 2013-10-21 13:14
you enjoy your 70 seb a grail for sure i hate waiting for items to arrive , but when they do i am like a kid in a sweet shop
seb968 - 2013-10-21 13:16
I know exactly what you mean mate! Thanks

Don't throw it away. Before you start to restore JVC, try to clean and paint this - you will get precious experience

Great bargain Seb! I was watching too but 2 things put me off, first just incase its not an easy fix (I hope it is mate, but you are more than capable if it needs work) and second yet another boombox argument with the Mrs Smeaton
although if I was more confident in my fixing skills the argument would be totaly worth it!!

These can go for $1000, wow, thats too much money!! I placed my first bid on friday night because I was going up to Northumberland, didn't know if I would internet access up there and didn't know precisley what time I was comming home. It was quite a low bid though. This evening I placed a number of bids but only when I was outbid. I kept the bid increments small. Must have just been lucky. Cheers.

Cheers smeats. I do fix things, but the fact it is not a worker still nearly put me off! I never take it for granted that things will be easy, funny realy, I am in the electronics bussines but that can sometimes make you think the worst!! However I have taken a punt on this because I love them. There are people on this forum who know them inside out as well, info and help are always appreciated!! Have to see how it goes
I also have a girlfreind who will probably give me the rased eyebrow look when it arrives (particularly as I have an Aiwa on it's way as well!)

Well, if you take a box outside this must be the one! All the stories about portability, good on batteries, loud, perfect size, etc are all true. For me this is the THE ghetto blaster for the outside It's a real workhorse

Sometimes the screws that hold these things together are hidden by feet, and/ or labels, unless it just clips together.

My brother bought his 656 in the 80's and I always admired it. The M-70 is definately it's bigger brother, I remember seeing them both in shops at the time. The 70 was considerably larger. The only reason my brother didn't go for the M-70 is that it wouldn't fit in his locker at work (He used it when on night shift) The 656 is a nice machine, and my brothers one is part of my collection now. Hang on to yours mate, they are an underated machine.

Thats a good idea, nothing to loose. The outer casing is going to soak in a bucket of water overnight to shift the 30 odd years of grime. This will give me a true idea of surface condition. If it is not so good it will make a good paint job project as you say! Don't feel so bad now youve suggested that, thanks. (I didn't pay much for it but was still a little dissapointed when i unpacked it, condition is shocking!!)
