Moderation queue filter issues
ao - 2013-11-10 21:43
You've probably noticed some posts appearing late or not at all. It appears the issue with our Moderation queue filter is back again. If we add trigger terms in an attempt to ensure you guys aren't subjected to the constant stream of spam posts for Nike Air trainers and Abercrombie gear for some reason many posts are randomly quarantined for no apparent reason. Every day I have to release 10-15 innocent posts which have been snared up in the filter.
It seems that a fix isn't imminent so, we either....
1. Remove all trigger terms to stop this happening but you will see a lot more crap posts for jewellery and trainers
2. Keep it as it is but possibly valuable posts will randomly go missing.
I vote '1'

I still think new users should have to be authorised by moderators before they can post. That way they can’t just sign on then post. They will have to sign on and them come back at a later date to post after they have been authorised. This will slow them down.
By the way 2. Keep the spam filter.

The problem we have is that despite what you think, Retro and myself aren't on 24-hour alert to approve content, which, as I'm sure you'll agree, can be frustrating for a new member bubbling with enthusiasm about finding this treasure trove of a forum for the first time.

I vote for 1, quarantine of posts is quite disruptive.

Hey sorry agentorange i did not know it's just 2 of you guys doing the moderation.

Option 1, we can always put the filter back if we get overloaded by spam.

Same thought has repeatedly crossed my mind. It would be interesting to compare the nicknames of the serial spammers and see if a pattern emerges. One of them was: stereo2god, hmmm...
I have a suggestion for one potentally effective anti-spam measure. But I'll keep it secret, so that spammers won't know it. The idea is that no counter-measure is effective if you don't know what the measure is
I'll send a pm to our mods, and see what happens. As for the poll, I vote 1

I vote option 1 with character recondition and e-mail link confirmation for new registers if it hasn't already been implemented.

One thing I have noticed is they always choose 'female' as their gender, so I wager they're either the same person or the same group. Ban females perhaps?
On average I have to delete one spam post a day, not sure if Retro does more? So, yeah, I favor removing the filters all together but you're going to see a lot of crap from time to time.

To add, I've just found Sal's above post lodged in the Mod queue.
Retro, is it worth pinging Paul about this, there is only five terms in the filter, it has to be a fixable issue?

In fact former respected member James Craven Price nails the issue in this informative and concise video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...amp;feature=youtu.be

I buy half of my Abercrombie apparel through these legit links
Less frustration when it comes to posting. I know some of my posts are floating out there somewhere
