Thanks Oldskool, I'm really digging that CP-7. Are those tweeters above the woofers? It doesn't look like it but regardless that is one hot looking box.
Nope. The CP-5 is like the JVC PC-3,5, and 11 of the era and has a bass reflex port where you would think a tweeter is.
The CP-7 has guess what...A PASSIVE RADIATOR! How many boxes, other than the Toshiba WX-1 has THIS feature?
Pics of my silver one (I can't wait to get home!) will be posted this weekend.
The only boxes I can think of that have a passive radiator are Aiwa's CS880 CA70,+ CA W20 and a couple of Akai models.

You're right about he Akai's, Skip. I think they're in the PJ series.
That CP-7 in black looks even better than a silver one! Wow!
I love the black one. The CP-5 looks better in silver though. I have actually seen a version of my CP-99W in slver and it looks nowhere near as good as it does in black. It's baby brother 55W tends to look better in silver though. Maybe it the mechanical controls and analog tuner.
That CP-7 in black looks so high tech I'm digging it too!!

So how does the CP-7 sound? I'm assuming it's just running a full range speaker since I don't see any tweeters.
I haven't had a chance to do a full review as my silver I won on the 'Bay arrived during the work week and I work 120 miles south of home so I stay where my project is. Full review to come this weekend!

No pressure, I know how work gets in the way. I would love to spend more time playing, repairing and reviewing boomboxes but since it's a hobby it's always towards the bottom of my to do list.

So no tweeters on the cp-7?
indeed!

Full range? weird, and looks like the lower model cp-5 has tweeters. why would they do that?
masterblaster84 - 2008-02-29 12:14
Peter, I thought that was strange too. Usually the lower model would be full range and they would add tweeters to the upgraded model. Hmmm, is the CP-7 really an upgraded model.
oldskool A nice modern looking machine black definately does look good.
Look forward to seeing some pics of the silver one.
No tweeters on the cp7 reminds me of bose speakers they sound great full range.

Of course nothing like a little visual trickery, thanks for clearing that up.
The CP-7's actually have a tighter punch than the CP-5's. I've heard them both side by side and the CP-7 actually does have a cleaner sound.

The PC-11 has no tweets, wow, I gotta go check it out now. Never knew that
Nope. JVC in the PC Series up until the PC-55 did not have tweets but four inch full range drivers. They went back in this direction when they introduced Hyper-Bass in the late eighties to mid nineties. If I'm wrong let me know but I believe that is correct.
