OK, I'll be devil's advocate here.

To most people, boomboxes are:
- an anachronism, or a curiosity at best.
- big plastic boxes with little use - no CD/mp3 player, no DAB radio, etc.
- if non-working? trash, plain & simple.

So, hard as it is to watch these little brain-surgeons at work, let's for a moment cut them some slack & assume the boombox didn't work.
Kids like to smash stuff up, period. Therefore, these kids wiere just smashing up some trash.

...of course, if I saw them in person, I'd be MUCH less kind
