JVC PC-55 & 550

stuball - 2008-08-02 16:14

I am looing for info on the JVC PC-55/550 units. I'm starting an eBay guide on these units. I'd like to track the eBay sales and provide a sort-of buyers guide. I am looking for info on the differences between the 55 and 550 as well as years of production and country/voltage specifics, etc. Any help from you experts would be appreciated! You may email me at stuball_at_sugareestitches._om (fix spam deterents). Links to specifically helpful posts on this or other forums are great, too; it just takes too long to read through all the posts using a keyword search. Thanks, all!

Well you can start with one that sold for $1,300.00 a JVC PC-55. The seller on ebay claimed it is a much better sounding box than the M-90 I don't think so. The M-90 gets two snaps and a circle!

Welcome...

Here are some good links for you:

Linkies...

If I understand your post properly, you planning to do a eBay Boombox pricing guide website or something of that nature?

jt - 2008-08-02 22:59

The BBDB

Here would be your ultimate reference guide...

Yes, but eBay doesn't allow ouside links in their guides, so posting useful info is just about impossible. Can't even direct folks to an outside web page! And it seems the REAL boombox junkies are _way_ more into it than I envision! I just love the JVC as compared to anything new, nowadays. Thanks for the links! If I find a comprehensive online source for info, perhaps I'll just direct buyers to that in my guide ( until eBay gives it the boot Wink )Cheers

BBDB looks impressive! But, like I said, I'm really just interested in the PC-55/550. And from what I've read the BBDB 2.0 just has lots of pictures. Can't justify $$ for pictures. Kudos to the dev of BBDB, though! Goin to check links, thanks again JT
...$1300!!!

The BBDB has more than just pictures. It includes repair guides, schematics, production information, AKA information, and much more. Wink

I dunno, I like your enthusiasm, but asking others to do your work for you is, well..... kinda weak.

Put the time in yourself, and ask for help to fill in the holes once you have done so. There should be quite a bit that you can prune with the search function here.

Good luck on the guide on the 55/550, it's a great radio.

I will stay tuned for the BBDB 4.0. I do not have a DVD drive on my computer, but I have a DVD player. I found boomboxery.com very helpful, thank you!

Good catch, Stuball! That one would have been mislabeled from the donor and has now been corrected. Did you see the other manual for the PC-5JW there?

jameswp67 - 2008-08-04 16:16

Hey Bobby, do you need a specific manual? PM me if you do,

stuball - 2008-08-04 16:42

Yes I did. But I was looking for a PC-55 manual and just didn't catch the single 5. Still looking!

billpc55 - 2008-11-11 11:23

550 is the boombox i most regret selling.

stuball - 2008-11-11 16:49

I've got a 550 mod for sale on eBay right now! Pricy, yes, but a 55 just sold for $405. Too bad the Canadian chap packed it so crappy Mad

stuball - 2008-11-11 16:50

Oh yea, the eBay lising is 110310369356

oldskool69 - 2008-11-11 17:29

Saw your listing. Small correction though, I did not paint the woofers silver, just the dustcaps. The cones are white. Smile

stuball - 2008-11-11 19:36

Yes, I meant dustcaps. They sound so much better, I'm not going to be too sad if it doesn't sell. I've got 4 55/550's now. Did you guys see the RC-55 replica toy that was listed a while ago? Totally looked like it!

ghettoboom777 - 2008-11-11 20:50

Hi-I just love my PC-55's!!
I have 2 of them-The JVC PC-55JW and the PC-55C
Canadian model.
The PC-55C has a plug oulet in the back!
The 55JW does not.
The 550 is the black version.
I remember that I had a choice back when I first went in and bought mine brand new in 1985'.
I should have bought the black one!!
I just remembered this.I do think that is when I first went in there-I don't think they had any of those left when I actually purchased mine.
I just love these-they're incredibly clear & powerful.
Have a great one-Ghettobooom777. Smile Nod Yes
