Thanks for the scans Retro. IMHO Toshiba along with Pioneer and Panasonic/ National had the most avant garde designs of their day. A piece of street art so to speak

Hello, this is a long shot, but I've joined this forum in the hope that somebody can identify the model of this ancient toshiba cassette player:

easthelp - 2016-05-09 10:34

Welcome to Stereo2Go, Roger Rowley. I'm not sure how much help I can be to you in the opening hours of your posting a message here. But let me begin: a quick Google search online using the search terms "Toshiba Easy World" and "Toshiba EasyWorld" reveals no matching or approximate images for compact, mono-speaker Toshiba cassette players. Google searches with the term "Toshiba Cassette TV" don't seem to be terribly helpful, either.

There seems to be a ray of hope with the altered search term "Toshiba TV Cassette": it yields the Toshiba TY-CWU11L. But that model is listed as being "blue" in colour. It also obviously has a circular-woofer stereo-speaker layout and a digital display. It also has Bluetooth capability -- technology that I doubt existed when your unknown Toshiba was made.

Now, based on Google Images search results for "Toshiba Cassette Players," there is the Toshiba RT-250/R. It has a tuner with a single shortwave band. It probably does not have a tape counter, a feature that is handy for indexing track boundaries and specific track segments. But it's obviously not the white-bodied model that you're trying to identify.

There's the Toshiba RT-2120. Its tuner has no shortwave band, though it does have a tape counter. But no, it's not your red-button mystery of a Toshiba.

One also finds the Toshiba RT-4750. It, too, seems to have a tuner with one shortwave band -- while lacking a tape counter, one notes. But it's not the white-cabinet Toshiba that you've asked about.

One also spots a decidedly older Toshiba, which seems to have the model number KT-270R. One may try to compare your mystery Toshiba to this apparently decades-earlier unit with its front-sloping top, its noticeable red-button control and its light-coloured trim and side panels. But the older Toshiba is angular and has a black façade. The resemblance is at best slight.

There's also the Toshiba RT-F40D. It's apparently a Japanese-market model. It has an FM/AM tuner and a tape counter -- and apparently also tunes the audio of TV channels 1 through 3. But it's not the white-bodied Toshiba model with the three slotted, speaker-grille columns.

I could go on and on, suggesting all sorts of Toshiba units that I already know aren't the model that you wish to identify. (It is easy to have a bit too much fun.) But, you know, Roger Rowley, I'm not even sure that your unknown Toshiba model is  part of that brand's obviously vast RT series of characteristically tuner-equipped audiocassette recorders. I also don't know if this gadget has a PAUSE button, unless of course the unit has a stylized, relatively hidden PAUSE control elsewhere -- or one of the five visible tape-deck buttons also doubles as a PAUSE switch.

This issue of the unknown Toshiba having or lacking a PAUSE switch now has me wondering: was this a children's model, marketed towards the under-age-10s? If so, won't there be several other colour choices for that model?

I know that this message of mine is of some length, as my messages tend to be, I shruggingly admit. But I hope it wasn't a dratted waste of your time. Take care, now!

I did, without any problem as it is nearly concise, but it didn't ask the question of where did the original image come from, so as to maybe help deciphering more about that image and it's history so as to help figure out more about it.  This like finding a random image on the internet and then telling other's to go and find the same thing again, and then ask why was that image posted there in the first place?

Not really, he's hoping someone can recognize it.

If you gentlemen really wanted to help, you would have suggested that he opened a new thread in the wanted section in order to attract more people.

roger.rowley - 2016-05-10 03:26

As I said, I knew it was a long shot. The image is from an old, unknown encyclopedia and was selected as the cover art for my friend's old band.

I posted in the 'wanted' section too, but thought I would start here because the image looks like a brochure image.

Some clever person immediately identified it as a Toshiba KT-225, and another clever person responded with an actual brochure containing an image of the unit, which confirmed the model number as such. The brochure was actually for the brand ACTAS, which I assume maybe a subsidiary of Toshiba or vice versa.

So, mystery mostly solved. Now, I need to find one!!!

Thanks for your help.
