Aiwa CS-880
Description
The Aiwa CS-880 was a mid sized, one-piece portable radio cassette recorder released around March 1981. The CS-880 was loaded with features that were slightly ahead of it's time and set a standard for many boomboxes to come. It featured digital synthesized tuning, Dolby noise reduction, soft-touch tape deck controls with METAL capabilities, and a unique Acoustic 3-D system with a 6 3/4" passive radiator and 5 9/16" woofers mounted in a separate reinforced enclosure. The Aiwa CS-J88 was very similar in appearance to the CS-880, but it ran on 100v AC as opposed to 110-220v, and the radio tuned from 76 to 90 MHz instead of the usual 87.5 to 108 MHz.

How long before we see that image on a pencil sharpener or a tote bag, or something really practical. I agree, the silver looks great driptip.

Excellent review and fun info, enjoyed much, thankyou. I have the version with the blue speaker grill and darker dial. Is there something functionally different about the silver dialed one, as in bands, freq. range, etc? The cs880 is my best sounding stereo cassette recorder(to use the proper verbage of the day...he he)...or boombox works too. I think the big Aiwas just exude class, not to mention great sound!

The J88 also has a mic mixing knob.... the 880 doesn't.
