Toshiba WX-1 fixer-upper cheep
Gee lot's of desirable's there...

drmr2000 - 2009-12-09 16:57

Was about to hit the Buy-It-Now on the JVC M90 intill I read the description.

The AM and SW stations do not seem to come in.
The cassette tape deck does not work.
Cosmetically there are some dings, bumps and other wear
Power cord is unusual and I do not have that type to test it

For $1000 or higher everything sure work and be in mint condition and at very lease come with a powercord.

Hey... I surf ebay just about everyday for the hell of it and what I said is just how it is. I haven't seen no more than 2 Sharp GF 9696 or an M-90 up for auction in a while and I for sure haven't seen a Casio in the longest time.

You guys must not like to fix things.

alvinm - 2009-12-09 18:26

I am a master at fixing these, even when I buy these working end up doing a full restoration, give good cleaning, change all bad caps, belts roller change brushs on motor and ETC, just don't like it when people put a high price tag and don't take care of it or do general maintenance.

I see where you're coming from... it was cool seeing these come out of the woodworks though.

Yeah... seen this too. Usually these have slight wear or are missing buttons. Nice item Alvinm!

superduper - 2009-12-09 19:36

It's all relative. I buy stuff that is complete and working AND I buy stuff that needs work or is dead. However, I wouldn't buy something just because it's on ebay. The price needs to be right and if the M90 has partially dead tuner, that could be a hassle. It has a dead cassette and who's to say it isn't due to dead unobtanium IC? That M90 cassette makes use of many proprietary IC's which are no longer available -- through any source. Needs belts? No problem. Needs something else -- maybe no problem, maybe not.

Also, boombastic doesn't pack using conventional materials. He uses recycled cereal boxes, anything that's available. If no damage, no problem. If damaged, UPS might not like what they see. Also, on 2 boxes that I got from him, each took 6-8 weeks to arrive.

digablekid - 2009-12-09 19:48

Look at this 777Z... Cassette is working correctly. Radio voice has only one channel, so a balance knob does not work. All are original。

Fo $260.00, time and effort... you can turn this into a Gem.

Good thing he live right in my area, so can just swing by sunday or saturday after work to take a good look at that Toshiba, look like need a very good cleaning, more like a total rebuilt, but at lease all button and everything still there none missing that I can see in the picture, also no cracks ethier, just wonder what thrift store he getting these from, I go to most of the ones in my area all the time and can't seem to find anything like these, most the thrift store owners in my area knows these are worth money and end up listing them on eBay even though they are not suppose to do that.

i agree with Stormin Normin, i am reserving judgment on boombastic, but i have been waiting over 5 weeks on a box from him...i hope i get the cereal boxes that haven't destroyed the box. Eek

update: it got here and was packed really well. i think boombastic is excellent. slow shipper but good packaging and nice box.

What do you mean "not supposed to do that"

Business is business.......The good thrift stores have a designated employee who sits around listing stuff on the web.

Will not get into this one for very good reasons due to it start getting into legal matter which will take a few pages, let just say 90% percent of Thrift stores are consider to be nonprofit organizations and claim they are and fall under the nonprofit sale rules

The first thing to look at is whether your business could even qualify as a non-profit organization? None of the thrift stores around my house technically speaking do, for the simple reasons, they sell under the table, a designated employee who sits around listing stuff on the web under there own personal accounts and not under the tax ID "hence nonprofit business". There only one in my area that don't claim to be a nonprofit business and sells legitimately.

The most common form of non-profit is known as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization; when these organizations receive donations which all the thrift store around my house receives, the donors can claim deductions on their income taxes. In order to become a 501(c)(3), a company must be dedicated to a charitable purpose or serving the public good. For example, educational ventures, religious organizations and public assistance groups (that feed, clothe, house or otherwise serve those in need) all qualify. The group must benefit the public, as opposed to a private group. A 501(c)(3) must also be incorporated.

Point being.......... Having a designated employee who sits around listing stuff on the web under there own personal accounts, to line the owners pockets, may not be a good idea being it not just a unethical business practice, but very illegal, since they are to the IRS and the public a non-profit organization, unless it For example, educational ventures, religious organizations and public assistance groups and the group must benefit the public, as opposed to a private group.

Now I am not talking about the ones that a small business just trying to get by, I am talking about the big ones that claim to be "non-profit".

Understood.
